Y'all don't realize how lucky you are! I would kill for a half dozen or so of these here. And affordable housing included! damn.

Those units are smaller than my one bedroom apartment in Japan. I like the concept of this building, though. The design is interesting at the top.

Sixteen storey tower proposed for Old Strathcona

Edmonton,Alberta / iNews880
Scott Johnston

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CaPS7MfWQAArjK8.jpg:large

A developer wants to build sixteen storey tower just off Whyte avenue. But there’s a catch. The sixteen storeys is well above everything else that’s there and it worries many who don’t want the view on Whyte avenue spoiled.

“People are going to say you’re going to affect the character of the heritage of the area,” said Mathew McLash of Westoak Developments who argues he’s worked with the community and has overwhelming buy in from those he’s talked to.

McLash has parceled together three properties on 105th street and 81st avenue. “I have a dilapidated church that is falling down, I have a gravel parking lot and a very troublesome home that has been a focal point for illicit activities. Is that the character we’re trying to preserve for this neighborhood? I don’t think so.”

His proposal for The Mezzo is to emphasize affordable housing in two ways. By working with a community organization to own and operate it, to assist ‘in need’ families. It’ll also have smaller one and two bed room units compared to the rest of the rental market.[/QUOTE]

Height restriction stymies major residential development in Old Strathcona

DAVE LAZZARINO
More from Dave Lazzarino

Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue may experience a growth spurt in the coming years, but how much remains in question.

Talk of giving a facelift to the trendy district came to the city’s executive committee Tuesday and potential developers looking to be part of that work came with it. Presenters at Tuesday’s meeting said the goal is to increase density in the area without losing the walkable, patio-friendly feel.

“People are interested in renewing the street and we know what we really need to make it successful is a lot more walk-up traffic to support the local businesses there. We’ve heard that from the businesses over and over,” Mayor Don Iveson said. “One of the best ways to do that would be to add a few hundred, and ultimately a few thousand, more units of housing.”

Two projects that may make that possible surfaced during the meeting, including one 16-storey apartment building being proposed for the five lots along the northwest corner of 81st Avenue and 105th Street.

Mezzo - had a tour of the sales centre, incredibly impressive. Love the patios, top floor amenities, townhouses and retail. This is an excellent project.

That view though! I guess you don't need to be on Sask Drive anymore to get that prime Sask Drive view... Sweet!

The Mezzo

Looks like the site is just a staging area for construction of Raymond Block, I am sure the building will begin construction when the space is no longer needed.
