Spent about an hour taking pictures of the sidechick before meeting up with the boyfriend on Friday. There’s a bunch more pictures from different angles on my Flickr

I think criticism of the glass might be because more people see it from the north, where the gradient is not as smooth as from the south and looks less reflective at times. From the south the glass is nothing short of stunning.

^^ The last two shots are tremendous. I couldn't think of a better neighbor for Vista than GEMS. Their colors play perfectly together.

For people who can't fly on helicopters or don't have drone cameras, this is definitely one of the best vantage points from which to admire Chicago's skyline. Just a couple weeks ago I came across this older but higher-resolution photo on Wikipedia and found myself spellbound by it:

The original photo is here: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._sunrise_1.jpg

Great photo! Is it just me though, or is the larger version slightly squished vertically? Either that or the "shrink the buildings" theory from the OCS thread may have some merit after all...

No this is a plan to shorten the entire skyline so that Sears Tower tops out at 999.9'...

gandlaf's pic should totally replace the current wikipedia photo. too bad nobody here has the wiki clout to edit the chicago page

edit: no it does need to be in front of the street lights but wiki photo needs updating nonetheless

How is the gradient different north-south? Aren't the frustums symmetrical?

I mean the gradient in the color of the glass. Often the transition between tints appears less smooth from the north, so the different tints don’t really flow into each other and have a stärker difference between them. (See my last picture vs. the other ones). I’m assuming this has to do with how the sunlight hits the glass differently.
