TRU Development

Yes, lots going on at the moment.

Sounds like a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) building is getting close to being announced. Don't know the location, but likely central campus.

Can't wait to see that proposal. With those disciplines under one roof you'd expect the design to be pretty unique.

Had meeting up town so did a quick walk around the Reach and Health Building on campus. Don't get up this way too often.

The Reach. Site excavation for the last 2 buildings in phase 1. Looks like they'll be sharing the same underground parkade.

The 2 nearly completed apartments.

There's been a lot of construction up at Sun Peaks and figured I'd post here since it's pretty much a suburb of Kamloops. These photos are from Sotheby's construction update newsletter.

Peaks West by the Burfield chair. Phase 1 & 2 sold out. Construction starts next year on phase 3. First commercial development outside the main village area.

Thought that project was dead. They tore the old theatre down and sat quite for months. Walked by the other day and they were back to digging.

New office building going in on Tranquille. First building of a 3 phase development that will see a hotel to the right in the 2nd phase and a mixed-use apartment to the left in the 3rd. This building will be right in the middle.

Dec by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/152832480@N05/]

The building will be the future home of the Kamloops Innovation Centre and Streamline Technologies on the top 6 floors, an 80 seat restaurant on the ground floor and a 200-seat space being used for tech-based events, such as e-gaming tournaments, and various community initiatives. Plan is to create a tech based development that will also include TRU occupying some space.

That is a great development. Arpa is really going to work on Tranquille. Once those three buildings are in, the whole corridor will be transformed.

I wish the City would look at redeveloping the whole entrance to Tranquille. There are lots of auto focused business that likely should be somewhere more car focused and along a highway. If this area and the Henry Grube area was under a comprehensive plan, I have always thought it could be one of the most attractive parts of town. Especially if they opened up more access to the river and put in some amenities (Pool, Rink, Arts) or a new city hall.

Tranquille Road has been one of the most neglected area's in Kamloops since the beginning of time - good to see that it changing and new development is coming in. Maybe moving City hall to that area would be the shot in the arm the North Shore needs for redevelopment.

When I head to Sun Peaks this year will look forward to seeing how this development is progressing! Can't wait to take a look at the current two finished phases also! Looks impressive!

Totally agree, and I think all that is coming sooner than later with all the development. Land over there is finally starting to be worth something and Arpa doesn't seem to be slowing down. Just a matter of time until more players start to take notice. Don't agree on City Hall moving though, that would be terrible.

Where you put the green star on the water front property in your map above is exactly where a residential tower needs to go. I've always thought it would be the perfect location and could have some amazing amenities if they put in a dock and river access in.

This shows a good view of how much the patient care tower will be visible. New building will be directly in front of the right tower crane, and higher in elevation than the existing hospital tower to the right.

Major commercial development announced for the downtown core.
The Hive — to be located behind the newly renovated Delta Hotels by Marriott — will be a mix of premium office space and retail space.

The first of what looks like 4 buildings will be anchored by Urban Systems head office. Construction to start this spring.

The entire site is currently a parking lot so this will be a game changer for the downtown.

Absolutely fantastic Kamloops proposal! Love the materials for downtown, love the office element, love how it meets the street.

Just the type of development Kamloops has needed for a long time. Glad to see things coming together for the city.

Not construction related but thought this was cool. Chris Pratt is in town filming Jurassic World 3 and gave a shout out to Kamloops and how Beautiful it is here. Exactly why I moved here.

The Hive is so awesome. I wish they'd build something like that in downtown Kelowna. A nice office hub with a pedestrian friendly plaza in between.
