So I got a brand new SLR (Canon Rebel XSi), but I have no idea how to use it yet; anyway, I managed a couple test shots of Fairmont on Auto mode. From today (Jan 1, 2009):

It only lasted an hour or two. I must have been a few minutes ahead of you, phesto.

Good thing this tower is in the 140m range, that whole area is full of stubs and this tower (along with shaw) have finally brought some decent hight to the waterfront.

The snow slowed them down, they are still on 45/48.

I'm interested in seeing how much impact it will have when topped off and how much shorter it will look then the Shaw Tower. I'm hoping it'll look pretty close, or even about the same from certain angles at least.

I walked around outside the lobby today. I think it's going to be quite striking. There are some nice lighting features all around the base of the building, including some red downlights near the entrance. And the trees they put in on the Burrard side have all been lit up. It also looks like there's going to be a water feature near the entrance. I can't believe I actually have something positive to say about this. It's probably because seeing the Sears building getting power-washed this morning put me in a good mood.

Whats with all the writing around the lover levels? that looks retarted, I hope it's not permanent.

I actually like the writing. Sure, it's kitschy, and may not hold up over time, but it's different, and draws attention to the structure and the architecture.

It's a public art installment. I think it's permanent though I'm sure easily enough removed if desired down the line. I don't think it looks especially amazing but, like colemonkee, I like it for being something different. Ads a little more variety to the streetscape, and you know what they say about variety...

Are there any recent images of the skyline or of fairmont in the skyline?

And fairmont is opened already, is it not?
