It is no surprise that almost all of the river facing units (including the multi million dollar ones) are sold. It seems the ground floor 2 story "townhouse" units are the ones that are the most challenge to sell at this point.

I understand why the riverview units sold first, but have to say a view of the beautiful Nutana/Varsity View neighborhoods would not be so bad either.

It looks like all the below grade concrete work is complete and they are preparing to pour the at grade slab. Back-filling continues around the base.

I noticed extensive use of cables for prestressing the concrete in all the horizontal slabs.

In the foreground can be seen pipes for what I assume is a snow/ice melting system in the parkade entry ramp.

Still prepping for the ground floor slab. It looks like there will be radiant in-floor heating. With rebar, electrical conduit, stressing cables, plumbing and other pass-thrus, and heating pipes, there is a lot of "stuff" in the slab.

They poured most of the at-grade slab yesterday. But, there seems to be a small section on the SE side (along University Drive) that is not done. Its not even formed yet... I can't think of the reason why they did that (its also hard to get a really good look at things).

Today they formed and poured a few columns on the new slab.

Definitely a slower moving project than the others we’ve seen recently. How’s Baydo on Broadway looking these days?

I biked past there last week and looks like within the next few weeks to a month should see a crane up. Its 2 levels underground right? Looks like they are there to me or close

Dec. 7 Pictures

^^^ From across University Dr. As mentioned in the Saskatoon thread, they are working on the 5th floor.

^^^ From the corner (University Dr. and 13th St.)

^^^ Streetside. I think all of the "spots" on the slab edges are the locations of tensioning cables.

^^^ From the alley. The setbacks can be seen. It looks like there will be two garage doors. The closer door to one enclosed level of parking at grade, the further door to 2 levels (well... 1.5 levels) of underground parking.

Yeah, umm.... there’s no concierge. I know, I too was shocked. I know someone who was looking at one of the higher-priced units and that was a big negative for them

From Meridian's facebook page, it appears they are pouring the 7th (and top) floor of Escala. Seeing how that floor sits just above the treeline, those units will have amazing views. They should be some of the most attractive units in town for long time to come.

If the Escala website is up to date and accurate, then they have sold 31 of the 47 units (most if not all of the unsold units are east facing). Nevertheless, I would think that is very decent presales for a building under construction. Amounts to 66%

Either the website hasn’t been updated, or Meridian hasn’t sold a unit in months.

I went back and checked this thread... in March 2019 there were 20 sold. In Sept. 2019 28 sold. Now they are up to 31 (assuming the website is accurate). I only count 45 units but I could be wrong. Anyway to me that seems pretty decent. All the prime (and presumably higher priced) units are sold.

Feb 29 Pictures:

Happy Leap Day!

They appear to be working on a mechanical room. The 7th (top) floor has a noticeably higher ceiling than the lower floors. Also, the 1st (ground) floor appears to have a lower roof height than the upper floors (the 1st floor is pretty much obscured by the fence in the photo below). To me, this gives the building a "heavy" appearance, as if its squishing the 1st floor. I think multi-storey buildings tend to look better if the 1st floor has a higher than normal ceiling height. In the case of Escala, half the 1st floor is parking or the bottom floor of two storey town homes. Still, I think it looks a bit awkward and "flattened".

My wife said she noticed the crane is now down at the site. I am surprised as I thought it would still be needed for lifting interior finishing items up to top floors, but I guess not.
