Riverside Center’s One West End Avenue Tops Off

Quote:
Propelled skyward by the still-sizzling Upper West Side residential market and its dearth of buildable sites, the final phase of the Riverside South master plan is coming together alas. After decades on the drawing board, this southern-most, eight-acre segment known as Riverside Center has already spawned a pair of residential buildings designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli and SLCE Architects, with three other towers to the west undergoing site preparation. The shorter of the pair known as One West End Avenue, has just topped off its 491-foot concrete skeleton and is being developed through a partnership between the Elad Group and Silverstein Properties. The robust 41-story spire is the second tallest building on West End Avenue, only behind its more anonymous 521-foot-tall rental neighbor 21 West End.

Tough to tell from the pictures, but is that stone or concrete at the base?

Looks like concrete. I wish we'd return to the days of stone.

It's stone. The floor plates that look lighter are concrete that haven't been treated yet. It looks like concrete partially because the joints haven't been filled with putty toned sealent giving it that cast in place look.

Interesting side note though is that the constructed base doesn't match the rendering.

One of the components. Refer to 1 West End thread for another tower in the master plan.

I stopped by the site on the way to the Con Ed building for a meeting and they where installing glass panels on one of the towers (1 west end). Lots of activity. Cement trucks could be seen on the side. (See above pic two posts up for reference to the parcel).

From Trump Place to Waterline Square, Riverside South's Final Number Is Its Most Exciting Yet
February 14, 2017
Quote:
Waterline Square will break free from the post-modern drivel that has straitjacketed much of the Riverside South Master Plan —a plan, half-century in the making. The vision promises three contemporary buildings with 1,100 condo and rental units, developed through a partnership between General Investment and Development Companies (GID) and Henley Holding Co. The enlisted designers are among the most favored in the city and include Richard Meier & Partners, Kohn Pedersen Fox and Rafael Viñoly Architects; Hill West will serve as executive architects on all the new buildings. After months of foundation work, cranes have been erected to begin construction on these great towers.

Right by Ingels Pyramid. Also can see the top of 220 CPS peeking above Time Warner. To the right, the goliath called 30 Hudson rising.
