a different view from the JUMP construction site, courtesy of Architecture Buff:

they're changing the spire due to 3 complaints about the design.

Funny, hundreds of people just on SSP alone complained about the mast on the 1WTC, and their complaints were just ignored, but 3 people complain in Idaho and they replace it!

yeah, it's been a rather controversial topic for some reason. guess the developer wanted to appease everyone, though the demand for space in the building was much higher than the developer anticipated, so i guess the spire didn't offend everyone.

here are some nice evening shots from Sawtooth that show the lighting.

official grand opening has been scheduled for February 15th. some details:

Quote:
Zions Bank's public celebration of the grand opening of its Eighth & Main building in Downtown Boise just got a headlining act.

Bank officials said Tuesday that the Goo Goo Dolls will perform during the free public event scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15. The celebration also will include secondary acts, family friendly activities, a ribbon cutting, a variety of food trucks and a beer garden.

The Goo Goo Dolls will perform on a stage spanning the width of Main Street in front of the Eighth & Main building, according to a news release. Main Street will be closed between Ninth Street and Capitol Boulevard during the festivities. At this time, it is unknown if the four restaurants in the Eighth & Main building—including Ruth’s Chris steakhouse, On The Fly Deli, The Grill and Flatbread Pizza—will be open for the grand opening celebration.

In addition to Eighth & Main, the new Trader Joe’s on Capitol and Front streets is also scheduled to open in February.

it looks better than i thought it would. i like how the lighting turned out.

amazing how a small tower like this can make such an impact on a small skyline like boise's.

the grand opening was held this weekend with a free concert featuring the Ra Ra Riot and the Goo Goo Dolls along with a beer garden and other activities.

a local TV station estimated 20,000 attended the event. photos from the local media (idaho statesman and k106 radio):
