Yes, No Frills was yellow. I quite liked the branding back in the day with the banana.

The flat licence places that the US uses are an entirely reflective panel, and the serial is always printed on top in dark, non-reflective ink, so that the serial is readable in the dark. The only exception to that is Montana, which has one optional licence plate that is matte blue with white serial, but the plate itself seems to be much less reflective, and most Montanans are using different designs.

With the blue plates Ontario tried, the backing was very reflective, and the serial wasn't actually white non-reflective ink on top of it, it was a gap in the regular ink that revealed the reflective backing. They could have fixed it with using either a non-reflective white ink to apply the serial directly on top, or using a non-reflective blue ink so that only the serial reflected, but that likely brought the cost of the plate close enough to the cost of the current plates that, in light of the issues caused by Covid, persuaded the government to scrap the change.

They could convert the current design to a flat one (many states have done that, Minnesota is the best example I can think of) and change the slogan and logo on the existing design, but I figure they're not concerned about that right now. It'll probably get changed in a year or two when Covid has largely passed.

I'm surprised that the manufacturer, 3M, was brazen enough to sell them these plates since they likely knew that the design they intended to use and the process they used to accomplish it wouldn't produce a usable product. Either that or the research and development at 3M's licence plate division is shittier than one expects.

Loblaws basically wants to "brand its brands" so they are more lniked. Superstore, No Frills, Loblaws City market etc. all use that square with a round corner now. They better not touch Shoppers Drug Mart lol

Are these just a bunch of B's converging in upon themselves to create a hole in the space time continuum?

No it is a double infinity loop. Which is how time passes in Brossard. I had a girlfriend in Brossard once. Getting there by transit took aeons. looking out the window of the bus as it inched its way along Taschereau boulevard, on a cold, cobalt-grey winter day, with the dirty snow mountains at the edges of the shitty strip mall parking lots....soul sucking. . I haven't made friends at Jean Coutu or Shoppers Dog Fart. However I have found overpriced gift cards when it's some relatives birthday, does that count?

How about our transit systems? The O-Train's "O" can be seen from a mile away.

https://obj.ca/article/ottawa-home-p...starts-recover

Toronto's TTC logo is classic. Montreal Metro's logo is timeless and highly recognizable.

Skytrain's "T" is relatively recent, developed in 2009 in anticipation for the Olympics. Very helpful for finding underground stations.

Calgary and Edmonton's aren't quite as distinctive. They could use a modernization.

The TTC logo is great as a corporate logo but terrible as an identifying sign for the subway. The subway uses the same logo as a regular bus stop - there's nothing to distinguish rapid transit from the rest of the system. Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver have clear, concise rapid transit logos that stand out from the rest of their systems.

Speaking of Edmonton Transit, they used to have an awesome logo that could have served perfectly for LRT stations, but they got rid of it for a totally bland and indistinct "ETS".

Not too late to bring this back:

Winnipeg Transit has had some variation of their logo since the 70s... I think it's just blue now, though.

This is the logo for rapid transit stations:

That was a pretty nice logo Edmonton had. They really should bring it back in time for the Valley Line south opening.

Winnipeg is also pretty nice.

Yeah, here the Toronto and Montreal subway and metro symbols, respectively, are standouts.

The Ottawa O got me thinking about this guy (don't you hate his scarf look?):

torontoist

Perhaps the biggest phony in Canada. Comes across as warm, down-to-earth, but is really nothing more cold-hearted bean counter born with a silver spoon up his rectum. Recall the bread-price fixing issue.

That last one is good. Everything that a helpful transit logo should be.

TTC logo is great because of the history behind it (it’s the original logo from the 1920’s), but I find it isn’t as functional as Ottawa’s or Montreal’s.

Montreal probably has one of my favourite subway logos anywhere.
