Valley Crossing Bridges - why most of them not suspension bridges?

In Europe and North America bridges crosses valleys are usually not suspension bridges. However as you can see on http://www.highestbridges.com/wiki/i...tional_Bridges there are many valley crossing suspension bridges in China with a very great maximum height value of roadway above ground. Why are however lower valley crossing bridges in most cases not implemented as suspension bridges? Is the danger of wind-induced oscillations for valley spanning suspension bridges greater than for those crossing rivers or straits?
