Correct me if I'm wrong but I was looking at the web cam today and it looks like they are going even deeper with their hole. It is starting to look like more than just a single level of parking will be underground.

Thoughts?

The design may be incorporating any number of factors which would necessitate a deep pit. Perhaps there's to be a stormwater drainage detention area below the towers.

i would imagine (and hope) that the hole you're looking at will accomodate several levels of parking (think colony square). IMO, that's the way it should be....i give credit to developments that go a bit further in design and expense and hide a portion of the parking underground.

^^ It would explaing the 38 & 36 stories that were reported in the paper (4 levels below ground). They did the same with Plaza Midtown.

A couple more views of Phase II

Portable crane being assembled at 12th & Midtown

A large portable crane is being assembled down in the hole this afternoon. A telescoping hydraulic crane is lifting the pieces of the boom into place. This movable beast will do the heavy lifting for the foundation work, and then I'm sure we'll see at least two tower cranes erected on the site. And by the way, that hole keeps getting deeper and deeperer...

Site photo taken 10-21-07, it will have 4 parking levels totaling 47' below Peachtree at the office tower entrance.

It really is one hell of a pit. Walked over from the Woodruff to the Vortex for a burger last Sunday afternoon and watched them raise the crane for 1010 for a bit. They had some chalk markings at the bottom that looked like they might be for the cranes. I can't wait for these to come out of the ground.
