On the efforts being made by New Mangalore port to augment the cruise tourism facilities, the standing committee chairman said more must be done to fulfill the cruise tourism potential in Mangalore. Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S. said that a majority of visitors came by ferries on which folk singers and other artistes performed. Mr. Senthil said that the administration is considering leasing out the 23-acre government land in Bangra Kuloor for holding such events. “We can make better use of this land. Ferry rides to this venue will add value to events held here,” he told The Hindu. The district administration has proposed the construction of 20 jetties on the Phalguni riverside. People flocked to the over 20 stalls at the flea market at Bangara Kuloor on Saturday and Sunday evening. A whole range of readymade dress material, fancy items, bamboo baskets and organic vegetables were sold. There were food stalls selling traditional fish delicacies and North Indian food. Performance by rock bands was well appreciated.

I think the administration should develop Dambel busstop as main access point. People can walk a distance of about 500 meters through the bridge on Dambel-Kodikal rivulet to the river festival event ground. It is easy to extend bus service upto Dambel-Kodikal rivulet bridge.

The NMPT has identified Karkala (near Gomata Hills, Udupi district), and Moodbidri (near the Thousand Pillar Basadi), Kadri, Kudroli, Pilikula, and Panambur Beach, all in Dakshina Kannada, to build these state-of-the-art toilets at an estimated cost of ₹25 lakh each, said NMPT chairman M.T. MANGALURU: The iconic Kadri Park in Mangaluru is all set to get a facelift at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

“Besides, we have also been considering developing the Ganganapalya area near the park and setting up a water storage facility there. It is going to be year since the approval was provided for the development of Tannirbavi, Sasihitlu beaches in the city under the central government’s ‘Swadesh Darshan Coasta Tourism Circuit’, but the grant has not yet been released. Because of this, the plan to develop beach tourism lies in a ditch.

Development of river banks

The Swadesh Darshan plan includes the development of river banks at Tannirbavi and Sasihitlu at the cost of Rs 5 crore and Rs 51.14 crore respectively. This includes landscaping, pathway, pedestrian benches, water purification unit and temporary restaurant.
