Why did it take so long to be leased at such a good location?

Nike Factory should be good and a VERY long time coming. I remember back in the day when the Nike Town opened in Eaton's Centre, it was so cool yet such a big letdown. Hopefully there are some good deals at the Nike Factory like there are in US America. However, I think the "sales prices" will be marginal. I have noted that at major Nike retailers across the city (Sport Chek, Footlocker etc.) they no longer have sales on Nike products. One of the associates informed me that Nike doesn't like having their products discounted as it cheapens the profile. I suspect it has more to do with deflecting buyers to the factory store.

Where is the lot? Google placed it right at the circle of Bowness Road and 16th Ave

I'm hoping that the franchise operator is different than the one in Edmonton. It's not the best run shop and felt like a cheap knock-off.

yes, it's taking over the old Arby's on 16 ave NW. According to their facebook page, the grand opening is November 24th

I would say the Gravity Pope etc redevelopment turned out better than expected at a formerly run-down building on 17th ave.

I really enjoyed shopping in the downtown core today for boxing day. Hardly any people, lots of staff to help, no lines! But I do wonder how businesses there survive. As an indicator, on Boxing Day, among the busiest shopping days of the year, Cookies by George chose to remain closed for their Core location.

They have a viable critical mass Monday to Friday, 8 - 6 pm, and a growing residential population within the inner-city.

I found boxing day/week this year to be quiet in general. Economy is getting pretty bad.

I went to Visions on Boxing Day at 9:00am. I walked in, purchased a TV and was gone in 20 minutes.

Considering the slowdown, combined with Black Friday and 40% off sales the week before Christmas, Boxing Day's losing it's cachet.

I was just curious about the Mac's location across from Sir Winston Churchill High School, kitty corner to Northland Village Mall. It has been shuttered for some time (almost 2 years). While I initially thought that it may be closed for renovations but it appears to be permanently closed. It just seems odd that a convenience store across from a high school would close. The only factor I could think of is that they sold tobacco to minors. Any insight on this?

Not sure where to post this but I recall a discussion a few months ago about the new retail development going in just east of Winsport and one of the items of interest was an illustration showing an MEC. There was some debate about whether this was confirmed and whether it meant MEC would move from their current store on 10th Avenue. Over in the Edmonton thread there is discussion about MEC adding a second store at South Edmonton Common and also moving their current store to an even more central location. That would lead me to believe they are looking at two stores in Calgary as well - one central at their current location and the other in a suburban setting. Just speculation on my part however.

FWIW, this was for sure confirmed (two stores in Calgary) on Twitter about a week ago; https://twitter.com/mec/status/713077377086132224
