It's ok to have its own thread, (I guess), but it doesn't belong in the Highrise Construction section. So I'm moving it to Buildings & Architecture.

It may be tall but I think it's pretty damned ugly.

Are you serious? First of all, what is hideous about it? Second of all, it's just one picture showing a tiny sliver of the city.

People are entitled to their own opinions. That does not make them jealous.
I for one think everything Dubai is overrated.

Oh come on, I'm with y'all on Dubai being overrated, but a new tallest building in the world absolutely deserves its own thread.

It has one in Highrise construction and Middle East & Africa.

I know though, its this building's time to shine.

Wow, why are people downplaying the fact that this is the tallest high rise in the world as of this week? I've seen much worse and irrelevant thread topics. Congratulations Dubai. Now if this doesn't deserve its own thread, lets get rid of the entire city discussions section. This is skyscraperpage.com after all.

And how could you judge bare unfinished concrete and call a building ugly before it is even half completed? How could you call an entire city ugly when it has one of the most diverse and modern skylines in the world? What is wrong with you people anyway? It really sounds like jealousy to me. No one goes in random sections of the forums and calls world cities "hideous." No one goes and calls Shanghai or San Paulo "overrated." I'm not from the Middle East or Muslim and I have no allegiance to that part of the world but I can plainly appreciate the construction of the largest building in the world in the fastest vertically growing city in the world without needing to worry about how Atlanta or Kingston, Jamiaca stacks up.

People dont like it when arabs accomplish such goals.

people dont realize this has nothing to do with arabs. It is a man-made effort. The credit goes to everyone in the world.

Most skyscrapers in the world have been design by foreign architects and built by immigrants.

I totally agree. How is this thread not relevant on a website about skyscrapers?

I think this tower is awesome, as well as the majority of the new towers and developments they are building. But....I still think the remainder of the city is unimpressive, and by all standards average.

So anyone who dislikes this thing hates all Arabs. I haven't seen a more ridiculous argument in a very long time.
