In the original master plan, what was built in that plot was similarly cut off. Then once RR was moved, that former road area would become a pedestrian promenade fronting the park.

page 31. Not sure how much of that is still in play though.

Isn't the capital complex's massive new garage under the remaining cross roads (even after N Congress is turned into the mall)?

Oh you may be right. I'll have to go look that up again. I mean, I dig it. (No pun intended.) Bury all the damn garages, IMO.

This is amazing. I had forgotten about this. I blew it off at the time as "pie in the sky" but it's starting to seem more realistic now after seeing the design of block 164.

I'd prefer more park land rather than a paved "pedestrian promenade" but it's still exciting. This area could become a huge hub of activity, seeing how it connects with Waterloo Park.

KVUE reported this morning they're planning to demolish it this summer. They're also going to have an update this afternoon on what will replace it.

Awesome, an announcement should be anytime. I would think an implosion is in order. But I didn't see mention of it in the filing.

Are you sure? This is from the article:

Quote:
There are still a lot of possibilities of what could become of the space once the tower is torn down, but the entire property is expected to generate more than $400 million over the course of 99 years.

Burton said they will hold a community conversation next Monday to talk about it in detail.

But then there is this from Community Impact:

Quote:
While the demolition is moving forward, there are no firm plans yet for the property’s remaining four tracts.

Central Health is “keeping its options open,” per the May 15 release, and may pursue redeveloping the remaining tracks, selling them or a combination thereof.

I'm all in favor of parceling it out block-by-block. Let's turn it into multiple buildings instead of just 1.

Land swap for relocation of Red River.

https://communityimpact.com/austin/c...s-to-progress/

Quote:
According to Central Health documents, the proposed deal includes a land exchange, which would grant Central Health ownership of the existing stretch of Red River Street from 14th Street to 15th Street. That stretch of roadway is included in the Red River Street relocation plans.

The health care district will also maintain and control access of the garage at the corner of Red River Street and 15th Street.

In exchange, Central Health will provide the city with an easement for the relocated stretch of Red River Street, including an easement or encroachment beneath the actual street.

...

At that community meeting, Steven Lamp, the vice president of Real Estate and Facilities for Central Health, said the property will be ready for redevelopment by the end of 2019 “if all goes well.”

Red River realignment goes to council at the next meeting. Item 78

http://www.austintexas.gov/departmen...90619-spec.htm

Sounds like they are still turning the existing alignment into a pedestrian plaza fronting the park.

"Authorize negotiation and execution of an interlocal agreement with Travis County Healthcare District doing business as Central Health to construct and realign Red River Street to its historic alignment between 12th and 15th Streets and transition existing Red River Street to a plaza/pedestrian-oriented amenity.

Are they just for demo? There is no site plan, right?

Those cranes are for construction. No site plan was filed as far as I know. But on 05/31 an "E-Review" was filed for the building's construction. I don't know if this is a new type of site plan application. But I've only seen an E-Review filed on a couple projects, and both of those had a site plan in addition to the E-Review.
