Isn't North Dakota more similar to other Great Plains states than it would be to Michigan or Ohio, which are both much more densely populated and much more industrial (or at least have sent a lot more jobs over to China)?

^I did say that it was open to interpretation. I personally would count ND and SD and KS in a plains sort of area, but given the MidWest/Mountain West division here on skyscraperpage, I'd have to put them MidWest. I, as you, have usually defined MidWest based a bit on the rust-belt cities.

These are the same arguments we see with Prairie in Canada and where NorthWestern Ontario should fit in to the scheme. Generalizing areas usually doesn't work very nicely.

Obviously Midwest Canada is pissing everyone off. We should go with 88 to 110 W.

^I like that. Then it's completely obvious whether a city or town fits into one region or another. Oh wait, what about the city that's split in two by the 88W longitude? Think of the chaos, the infighting, the namecalling. Oh the humanity!!!

LOL

The city that is split by the longitude is actually Llyodminster on 110 W. But who lives there, eh?

Geographically speaking, if you're drawing a line from the AB/SK border to T.Bay, the centre of that line would be (roughly) just west of Winnipeg.

A few kms east of Winnipeg is a sign stating "longitudinal centre of Canada".

So the forum SHOULD really be named "Central Canada".

And now, I await the flames from "t dot".

I am serious though - "midwestern Canada"? Canada doesn't have a "midwest". I've never heard this term used in any province to describe any other province. It's purely an American term coined long before the ACTUAL west was settled, and is used to describe places that are most certainly in the EAST of the continent - Illinois, Michigan, Ohio etc. Do they not teach geography or history to ANYONE anymore?

Yes, sort of like how when Horace Greeley uttered the famous words "Go west, young man", the "west" he was referring to was Ohio.

Well, it WAS west of where Horace was, so there's nothing wrong with that. Now, if someone today said "go TO the west", and they meant Ohio, that's a whole different story.

I would vote for Central Canada for the section title. Like the man said we are in the center.

Central Canada officially means Ontario and Quebec in real life.

Well we aren't really Midwest. I think just changing it to Saskatchewan and Manitoba will work.

Only to those in Ontario and Quebec

Every map I see show those 2 places quite distinctly in the eastern half of the country.

Wow, I didn't realize there were twice as many Manitoban members than there were Sask forumers.

Very interesting, thanks to everyone who voted for helping me figure out the flavour of this new forum.

Well Winnipeg has been known as the Chicago of the north ... and Chicago is the Midewest. So maybe we are the midwest.
