That's a good question. There isn't much demand for a large retail space anywhere in the city.
This space has had five tenants since the mall opened in the 1960's: Woolco, Walmart, Zellers, Target and Lowes. It still makes me mad that Target had a half-baked plan to expand into Canada. A strong anchor tenant is required to bring people to any mall, and without one it is not a 'destination mall' that people would drive across the city to go to. Maybe they would be better off to tear the Lowes spot down and create more popular pad sites for individual stores and restaurants, which is the trend these days. Northgate is getting kind of sad. Empty stores. Former BMO building sitting empty, etc.
