This isn't a typical site. It's historical and right off the riverwalk. A LOT of work has to be done before a crane can be put up.

Oh, I'm not complaining. I just want to see it faster. It's a beautiful design. They said its suppose to open next year, but I would be shocked if it was. It's such a small site.

So I finally had time to drive by the Canopy site yesterday. It looks like everything is clear, no visible work that day, and the foundation is ready. However, I wonder, do they need to also replace the foundation from the previous building or ...

The foundation I saw looked fresh and currently laid, though, I could be wrong; the previous building could have simply been well taken care of. To sum, if that is a new foundation, I suspect with a fall 2018 opening date, The site is about to gain so much needed height

I work in downtown SA and walk by this site several times a week. I haven't seen any noticeable activity in about a month.

Oh not seeing workers during the week was a bad sign, I was really hoping it was just a day, but I guess not.

This is really disappointing. I would think, given the fact that jobs are on the line, something would be said by now from one of the workers on site.

Maybe they discovered something structural during the demolition that required doing some engineering updates.

I believe the general contractor backed out and they are having to find some one else to take over the project.

Wasn't that the Thompson Hotel project where the general contractor backed out?
And now that project has found a new one.

Harvey Cleary was the GC for both projects and ended up backing out of each one if I'm not mistaken..

Thompson was the result of not being able to come to terms on a contract with the ownership group but I'm not positive what happened with canopy. I'm sure there is someone else here that has better insight than I do.

The Thompson project announced a new GC a couple weeks ago on the business journal. That project will break ground late August -early September.
One nice thing going up. Well two with the Frost Pellini Tower!!
I'm sure the Canopy project will announce a new GC soon enough,

Thanks for the info. It's flustrating to hear when something like this happens. Hopefully once they hire another general contractor, the project can start rolling again.
