Thanks for the photo. That's a much better vantage point right now then I have. MTS Centre skywalk.

Looks like a bit of black layer there, near the top of excavation.

The third drill rig is down in the hole, to the right of the picture. The other two look to be finishing the piling or are just sitting there because they're finished.

It's amazing how quickly work gets done when it's a private project.

Let's not forget that there is a significant amount of public dollars involved in this project - dollars that were seemingly required in order for it to be viable to start in the first place.

Great photo cheswick. The visible pit wall is the only one that isn't shored up yet, the other three appear to be all done now.

When was the last time construction workers on a building in Manitoba weren't in the private sector?

Private project. As in this isn't the City of Winnipeg's transitway project that's taken 75 years. It's a development by a private company that was all of a sudden U/C.

^^Right. Or an underpass in Transcona that misses it's mark by almost two years.

D you think it's because private works don't work as hard for public clients or do you think it's because True North Square didn't have to relocate rail lines?

I have some more pictures from a different angle / height. I can't post them right now but will try when I get home from work later tonight.

You must be in construction bubbly? Not the workers.. Planning the projects themselves takes forever with public governments.

Original top soil is probably what it is. Back then they just covered it.

You are correct, you get a different view of the excavation and you can see the different layers of soil. clay by their different colors

Can someone explain what the little drill rig in the pit is for? i.e., the one that looks like a shipping container with the little tower sticking out the top with the jets flag on it.

They were drilling core samples for foundation work. Same sort of hollow stem drill rig used when doing samples for mining.
