Ya, we really need to figure out our offense issues. Defenses win championships but we are going to need an offense to get through Calgary. So, what's the issue? It looks like we have the players but lack the imagination to keep defenses on their toes. Can that be fixed at this point in the season?

It's truly amazing that the Riders's record is as good as it is, considering our abysmal offence. Yesterday's game show that even if we get a spectacular game from our Special Teams like we did, our offence is so bad that it can't overcome even a mediocre game from our defence. Our secondary was pretty weak against Ottawa.

Our ground game was OK, but if both your QB and receivers have terrible games, you can't succeed in the CFL.

So the Riders have announced they are going to be bidding on the 2020 grey cup. This raises the old hotel question.
What hotels have been built since the last Grey Cup in 2013.

Near as I can figure (with only a short amount of digging) there are 6 new hotels in the city and 2 out at White city....what am I missing?

1. Home Inn and Suites - Harbour Landing
2. Residence Inn Marriot - Lewvan & Dewdney
3. Comfort Suites - Pasqua and Armour Rd
4. Four Points Sheraton - Dewdney and Albert
5. Hampton Inn and Suites - Eastgate
edit: 6. Fairfield inn - Albert and Parliament

Emerald City - new Ramada and a Sleep Inn

any others?

Maybe some of these were there in 2013:

Day's Inn - HL;
Fairfield - Albert and Parliament;
Best Western Plus - Eastgate
Homesuites - Eastgate

Some quick checking based on google street view to the extent you can trust their dating of images. The Fairfield on Albert is definitely new but the others were around in 2013. Thanks Stormer.

Won't capacity be slightly lower at NMS than at Taylor Field? Between that and having a few new hotels in town, hotel capacity should be a non issue.

I'm not sure how things work but I would imagine there is a requirement to hold x thousand tickets for visiting teams regardless of how many tickets are available with the balance sold to locals. In 2013 there was only 1 visiting team (and fans) whereas in 2020 there could be (although I hope not) twice as many visiting fans.

It will be a non issue as they have done it 3 times before and everyone lived - just curious about the number of hotels.

The hotel on Lewvan in the north end is also new I think?

Yes, capacity will be lower, but I wonder if there will be slightly more interest in some of the travelling Grey Cup crowd to make it to Regina than there was in 2013. With the new stadium to take in and the way the event might be organized (all team festivals could fit on the exhibition grounds), interest could be up.

That is mentioned below as Pasqua and Armour.

Saw an article today...

Quote:

Regina hotels in “strongest position” to host Grey Cup
...

When the Riders last hosted the CFL championship game in 2013, it was tough to find a hotel room in the city. Most were booked up, starting two years in advance and some fans found other accommodations, camping out in trailers and basements.

Since then, Regina has added nine new hotels with another 950 rooms. That is a 30 per cent increase from 2013.

...

See link for rest of Article
So from the sounds of it, we have just over 4,000 rooms in Regina now.

^Yeah, Regina is not a huge hotel place. I wonder what vacancy rates are in the city most of the time. I'm assuming Moose Jaw was and will be pretty full during Grey Cup as well.

There's lots of hardcore Rider fans posting on the internet, but most of them are on the Riders Fan Forum.

http://www.riderfans.com/forum/forum/main-forum

This thread really just started because the Bomber fans were getting hurt feelings because Rider fans were posting in the Blue Bombers thread about the LDC & Banjo bowl games.

League to start on August 5th for the 2021 season. Team schedules to be released later today.

Definitely some good news. Curious to see if the individual teams will have any statements concerning stadium capacities. I'd assume that will depend on the limitations imposed by the individual provinces. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mosaic at full capacity by August.

Myself and my son and daughter were at the game last night. Fantastic atmosphere, great inclusion of the prairie First Nations in the opening ceremonies and a hell of a start by the Riders! Nail biter at the end!

No scanning of tickets - you just showed them to the gate staff
No Gainer nor cheer team on the field
Few wearing of masks (me and the family included, we’re all double shot. Don’t @ me LOL!)
We’ll see in 2 weeks if this is a superspreader event.

Great to see a full stadium and the Rourke kid has a ton of potential.

Was also at the game last night. They did scan the ticket on my phone for entrance, though. Don't know how to control entry without scanning, as there'd be nothing to stop sharing of e-tickets otherwise.

Seemed pretty much like a normal Rider game to me. Interesting observation was that in the last couple minutes of the game with the outcome very much in doubt, nearly every crowd shot on the Jumbotron seemed to be people mugging for the camera with apparently no interest in what was happening on the field.

Was an entertaining but incredibly frustrating game for this fan. My late second quarter thoughts of sneaking away with 5 minutes left in the game to get an early start back to Saskatoon while the Riders enjoyed a big lead certainly went by the wayside. The Lions scored their first TD at about the same time that I sent the image below to a colleague in BC. That should teach me to be a smartass. Karma nearly got me and I would have deserved it.
