Are Libraries really relevant in the 21'st century? I don't really see where the value is.

They are actually busy. I see people with books coming and going from the one on Henderson, the Millennium Library and the small one on Munroe.

In the skywalk level of the library the city actually blanked and/or installed locking outlet covers a few months ago on most of the electrical outlets so they don't have people camping out there on the floor trying to use the free library wifi all day.

They had one outlet close to the police station end of they skywalk that they had not "secured" and I saw last week that they have put shipping tape over the outlet to try and keep people from using it.

hmmm, I never would have thought people still get books from the library.

Went to the library on Keewatin with my daughter the other day and was surprised by how busy it was. Lots of people studying at the tables, and most if not all the computers were being used for the web.

Libraries are still busy across the board, but it's the Millennium Library which has specifically taken on the character of a social service agency.

The Millennium Library installed an awesome Amazon Locker-type system where you can order your book online, and go pick it up from an automatic locker in the skywalk where you enter a unique code and it unlocks to get your book inside. It's fantastic.

It's effected things like newspapers and magazines much more because they are quick reads with an article format, which most people seem to be fine with or prefer reading digitally. However any longer reads, like actual books, it's still much more comfortable to read off physical pages. I personally still read fiction and general interest books so I'm at the Millennium library quite a bit, and it's usually busy.

I have the opposite experience. I like that I don't have to flip pages and reorient an ebook depending on which side of the page I'm looking at. I can just twitch my thumb to see the next page.

And no bookmark needed; it remembers where I left off.

I have a Kindle and use it regularly (especially while camping/traveling).

However I can respect that not everyone wants to drop $100+ on an e-reader and then buy their books when they can just take them out for free at a library.
