I found out what those 4 tower cranes were that we were wondering about near 71 in Southeast Austin.

I saw them again Monday night from my brother's neighborhood. We were hanging out riding bikes in his neighborhood. Don't worry, I didn't go inside their house and we were wearing masks and keeping our distance. My brother and I both bought mountain bikes recently, and we've been doing some trail riding together, but Monday night we also set up his ramp against the curb and we jumped it. Man, that was fun. I haven't jumped ramps on a bike since was a teenager. It felt good. Anyway, on the way home, I saw those cranes again. I found the permits for them.

Those four cranes are for a new TXDOT complex with five buildings, the largest being a 418,703 SF five-story office building. There's also a large warehouse, a testing facility, a central utility plant, and a 548,700 SF six-level parking structure.

I believe this new facility is to replace the leased offices on Riverside immediately south of the Statesman property. IIRC, the ground lease was up in 2019, so they must have negotiated an extension. The property owner, Moton Crockett, passed away last October at the age of 96. I'm sure his heirs are working on a redevelopment plan consistent with the South Central Waterfront Framework Plan.

The only reason I didn't post it here is the formatting, the different image formats make it a pain to copy things over. The text is easy enough, I might post a bare-bones version here next week.

It's not hard. Just upload them to imgur - it's free, and use the BBCode tag option. BBcode is the image code tag that the forum uses. Click on the "copy" button on imgur and then paste the link here. To do that you push control v.

drove around the city a bit this morning, couple things stood out.

1) scrim around the old US Court House. Don't remember what the plan is with that, iirc the county or city bought it to re-purpose it.

2) It looks like the old Hut's facade may stay? They have demoed most of the restaurant, but not the front.

3) The Alexan, the Tommy, Indeed are all imposing driving into the city via I-35, something that's been mentioned here before, but wow, very cool to see in person.

4) the Quincy too is VERY imposing from Congress Bridge and from the East Side, again something mentioned prior....and cool as hell to see. I didn't think the Q would have such an impact.

5) the RBJ development looks pretty cool, nothing amazing....some of the apartments look to be ready for move in soon.

6) the glass walls on the front of Indeed bld (1st floor basically) looks AMAZING.

by this time next year, by my count, 8 +/- skyscraper should be t/o. I can't wait to see it.

I propose that we add to each u/c project title the "anticipated completion date"

That's a cool idea. Did you mean move in date? I'd be happy with anticipated topped out date, completion / move in ready dates are so unpredictable, even with the finish line in sight. I mostly care about when they reach their final floor, except for anything under 300'. They're mostly block hoggers at this point.

I would be happy with the anticipated top out date as well!

Example:

Austin | 6 X Guadalupe | 848 FEET | 65 Floors | Est. T/O '22 | U/C

What do you guys think?
