Looks fabulous. Thank you for the pics. I'm surprised at how much green and fall colors are still on those trees.

^This year has been insanely warm in terms of average temperature, which has had a very noticeable affect on trees and plants. Every month since July 2023 was at least 2.4 degrees F above the 1970-2000 climate norms. Climate change in action.

Construction is underway on a new cycle track on Ferst Drive on Georgia Tech's campus.

The Ferst Drive corridor is a primary, multimodal transportation route through campus. This phased project aims to reimagine the corridor by installing a cycle track originating in Tech Square and running to Tech Parkway. It will also improve access, safety, and connectivity throughout campus.

A cycle track is a dedicated route for cyclists with two lanes for bi-directional travel. The track is often separated from vehicular traffic by curbs or other infrastructure. The cycle track will be installed running along the inner edge of Ferst Drive.

The first phase of work, beginning Dec. 5, will require adjusting the centerline of Ferst Drive from Atlantic Drive west past State Street, The Kendeda Building, and the EcoCommons, through the intersection with Hemphill Avenue, and up to the turf field adjacent to the CRC. Traffic cones, flaggers, and construction signs will indicate how vehicles, cyclists, scooters, and pedestrians can safely navigate Ferst Drive as construction progresses along the route.

Currently, Ferst Drive features individual bike lanes on each side of the roadway where cyclists travel in the same direction as cars. During construction, the bike lanes will be merged with vehicle lanes, creating a shared roadway through the construction zone with “sharrows” (markings on the roadway) indicating this shared condition. This is a temporary measure to allow for the construction of the cycle track.

The plans for a Ferst Drive cycle track originated from a 2019 award-winning Senior Capstone research project completed by an all-female team in the School of Civil Engineering outlining the safety benefits of a cycle track. A subsequent professional feasibility study confirmed the students’ research that a cycle track will improve safety by protecting cyclists from transit buses, preventing cars from parking in bike lanes, and reducing the number of interactions with vehicles at intersections.

The first phase of cycle track construction is expected to last through February 2024. For more information, visit Infrastructure and Sustainability Exterior Environment Projects.

The Ferst Drive Realignment and Cycle Track Project is part of a greater vision for connecting the Georgia Tech campus to the Atlanta BeltLine west of campus. As such, a Ferst Drive Connectivity project aimed at improving connections from Ferst Drive to North Avenue will commence shortly.

From Urbanize Atlanta

A pedestrian-infrastructure project that aims to enhance walkability around one of metro Atlanta’s most popular malls is moving forward, though not as quickly as previously planned.

Buckhead Community Improvement District officials report this week that construction bids are open seeking companies to build a long-planned urban linear park along Lenox Road, a wide pathway connecting Lenox Square with a nearby MARTA station.

That progress is a sign the Lenox Boardwalk, as the project is called, is “starting strong this year” and that “work will soon begin,” according to Buckhead CID leaders.

A building permit was filed for Atlanta Riverlands Trail Segment 1.

"This project is a linear greenway multi-use trail beginning at the proposed trail head on Marietta Rd, traversing East to an existing trail following adjacent to the Chattahoochee river. Then continuing North and East to the Standing Peachtree Greenspace. A multi-use spur trail also connects to the Silver Comet Connector Trail at Marietta Blvd This is a trail project which is being built on City ROW and Easement. it is consistent with zoning and will not require any zoning variances."

I was skimming the Atlanta Council Transportation Committee 1/17/24 meeting from a couple weeks ago and a City Auditor & ATLDOT Commissioner reported that the Atlanta DOT Peach Portal map, and associated project dates & details should be current as of this month.

Other Complete St projects now noted to begin in 2024:
  • JE Lowery Blvd - March
  • Fairburn Rd - May
  • Piedmont Ave (Midtown) - May
  • Spring St (17th St+) - May
  • W Peachtree & Spring (Midtown) - June
  • Cascade Ph 2 (Avon Ave to Beltline)- November

Lastly, anyone know what's up with the Howell Mill Complete St?

Just noting the Peach Portal is not representative of all projects, plenty missing from Moving Atlanta Forward referenda/TSPLOST project lists.

^Thanks for finding and posting those clean versions.
At the last in-person input session there were a LOT of comments. I got the impression that everyone supports improving Peachtree, but generally thought there should be more bike infrastructure, even less room for cars (potentially banning or partially banning cars from some blocks), and that the median greenspace wouldn't be usable and instead that extra greenspace should be added to the sides.

Yeah, no reason to add the garden medians and make the road unusable for parades etc. Just make the road narrower, and/or paint a gore.

No easy answers and certainly no way to please everyone but my "internet expert" opinion. Would like to see 2 lane traffic narrowed/no median (F green between cars)/offset between blocks for slow speed so most through traffic is moved to West P. and Spring. Of course WIDE/green pedestrian friendly (why put the green in the middle of cars when it should be by the sidewalk) with protected bike. It will NEVER be a world class street using the same old CAR FIRST and all else designed around that attitude.

Just to add: the GA Tech plan was much better.
