Calgary from afar

Heres a shot I snapped today while hiking "Cox Hill" in Kananaskis (just west of Calgary for those out of towners).
It was ferociously windy, so its less than stable.

I know you guys are all crazy about cities from a distance. Enjoy!

EDIT:
Heres a link to the a 1MB file so you can zoom in and what have you.

I can see Bigtime's unit! 0_o

Thanks for the pic! I just love how downtown juts out of the landscape like that.

Oh man I can see my unit!

Can we have a Calgary thread where my unit isn't mentioned? I'm blushing here guys!

That's a great shot. I hiked up Moose Mountain a few years back and the view was much like that, only further away. I didn't have a camera with any zoom so you can't even tell there's a city there.

Odd thing though: I muttered something about Mos Eisley, and 2 of the guys I was with said "yeah, totally!". I guess Alberta does look a bit desert-like in the fall.

Cool pic ... you must have a great zoom feature on your camera as Kananaskis is what about 70+ KM from Calgary?

Cox Hill is about 60km. I didn't realize it was so far - Moose is actually closer (I screwed up, thinking based on the treeline), which means that's one hell of a zoom lens. I've seen the city from this distance and you'd never believe just how far that is!

Someday I'm gonna see the city at night from Yamnuska (75km). I'm told it's out of this world.

I'm doing it next weekend I think.
I love Yamnuska. Its absolutely absurd when you have your legs over the edge up top looking back at the city. The hike down is sketchy. That scree slope is dicey at the best of times.
We might go to Ing's (sp?) mine instead, but I'm hoping for Yam.
We try to get out a couple times a month either riding or hiking.

Thanks for the kind replies.
It was shot with my 30D at full 300mm zoom.
