Assorted Calgary Photos - SAIT, Kensington, Downtown

Here's a bunch of assorted Calgary photos I've taken in the past month. Enjoy.

SAIT:

Heritage Hall

New Student Residence

SAIT Campus from Crescent Heights

C-Train approaching SAIT station - note the unpainted new LRV in the middle

Views of downtown from SAIT:

5-West stands out among a sea of bland boxes

Brava and Encore, suburban condo towers U/C along Bow Trail

Eau Claire district

SAIT panorama, for those that haven't seen it

The community of Kensington:

10th Street NW

Kensington Road:

Plaza Theatre

Intersection of 10th Street NW and Kensington Road

Looking across the Bow River toward downtown, at 10th Street and Memorial Drive

Louise Bridge

5-West

NW LRT bridge over Bow River

Louise and LRT Bridges

West End - note Buddhist Monastery at left

Bow River Pathway

5-West again

Pathway rules

Joe's Garage - a mobile bicycle repair shop

Looking east down 2nd Street - the Chinese Cultural Centre is visible in the distance

Along 2nd Street

OSCAR! The ugliest condo project in Calgary. Unfortunately, coming soon.

Shaw Cablesystems HQ

Looking south into downtown

Canterra Tower, left; Shell Centre, centre; Centennial Place pit in foreground

Centennial Place construction

That's a pretty deep hole!

Looking along 3rd Street from Centennial - Livingston Place U/C at far left background

Livingston

Jaimeson Place construction site

Livingston again, from the Jaimeson site

Note the new Plus-15 across 3rd

Jaimeson

Livingston South is nearly complete on the exterior

Livingston West still has a ways to go

A wall of glass - from left: Sun Life, TCPL, PetroCanada, 5th Avenue Place

Chinese Cultural Centre

One more of Livingston

Chinatown

TCPL

The Bow site

PetroCanada Centre

7th Avenue

York Hotel, soon to be incorporated into The Bow project

Beautiful! Thanks Chemist!

One thing- you're confusing your streets (2nd) and your avenues- I still do that sometimes too...

Great pics, thanks for posting them. Is it just me, or does Livingston look like shit.

I liked the original color scheme with the blue glass/tan covering.

It's not the black glass and dark gray granite that bothers me, it's the massing that I don't like.

I think it's just you. I like Livingston. Adds a nice presence to that part of the skyline. I'm so glad they changed the colour scheme from the old one, because I think that one looks seriously dated.

Awesome picts Chemist.
I think Livingston's mass is kinda ugly but the building itself and the granite cladding doesn't look too bad. ONce it opens I am definetly going to make a visit to see it from the inside. I'm sure there will be some eating area like a Wendy's incorporated on the second floor so I can get lunch.

Love the pano shots and the west end condo shots, Five West stands out nicely and is a welcoming look to modern design, I hope to see more new condos pop up in that west end to eventually cover up some of the older ugly ones.

I like how the commercial-oriented roads in Kensington have only one free-flow lane per direction (off-peak, I presume). Makes for a very nice pedestrian-oreinted environment. Beats the pants of Whyte Ave. in that regard, which sometimes seems like a freeway in comparison.

Heineken Beer Commercial Clip

Thanks to the ever vigilent C2E members I located this Heineken Champions League commercial with a clip of the Calgary Tower. While I can see Heineken being enjoy at the tower, I can't envision too many watching the "footie"!

Click on the right hand side arrow for Breakbumpers and then onto the Calgary clip.

Great pics. I'm thinking I'll take Kensington over Whyte Ave. any day. Whyte avenue is rather dirty, and Kensington is more trendy.

Great pix's. Livingston does look like shit! It was a waste of land IMO! Two mid-rises instead of adecent single tower, but what else is new!!
