A Walk Around Calgary Last October

On a very lovely beautiful day in late October 2006, I took these photos, mostly of a few of Calgary's older buildings but some other stuff as well. These pictures have been kicking around my hard drive for a while, collecting dust, so now they are resurrected.

Hope you enjoy

I started my little walk right downtown at 9th Avenue:

These buildings in the next 2 pictures will likely give way for development soon:

Next 3 shots: Penny Lane Mall, slated for demolition if all goes according to plan

This is the only building on the block that is supposed to stay:

The sketchy area of 7th Ave:

Moving east:

The "legendary" Cecil Hotel:

And now, we're in Chinatown:

Centre Street Bridge:

Eau Claire Market: this area will see a huge redevelopment hopefully sooner than later:

This corner has now been demolished and construction of a highrise is underway:

These towers are now nearing completion:

Moving to 4th Ave:

Hidden downtown house:

Rare downtown house:

Not a very loved building:

Another rare downtown home:

Some west-end condos in the background:

In the foreground is reminder of how this area used to look when it was lined with houses, probably over 30 years ago. Now only a few remain:

Nice shiny city... with some buildings that will definately not be missed if razed for development.

I love seeing all those hidden homes in the midst of highrises! Nice shots!

nice shots. The houses in the middle of downtown are funny. Not that long ago, anything north of 6th ave was a single family house.

Thanks! It's hard to believe these places have survived in a city like Calgary for that long...

Hard to imagine Eau Claire was mostly residential up to the late 70s...
