It's been said about a million times, it will join the construction threads when the building starts going into the ground, which as of right now, it is not.

Banker Steel Awarded Contract for One Vanderbilt Project in Manhattan
New Building Will Transform NYC Skyline and Strengthen Grand Central District

NEWS PROVIDED BY
Banker Steel
Nov 01, 2016

Banker Steel will be under contract to provide all structural steel framing (26,500 tons) for the project as well as responsibility for the erection, beginning Summer 2017.

Steel erection is scheduled to begin July, 2017

Here's the proposed scheduling again. I'll say they're on course.

They'll likely begin the foundation before year's end.

Is it in the ground now? I saw a pipe dragged on site this morning. If we don't switch it from "proposal" to "under construction" isn't there a risk that it might not go up at all?!?!?!

LOL. The guys on site are sitting around waiting until this thread is moved. That's the secret behind how this really works.

"Is it U/C now?"

"No, not yet Dave."

"Refresh the page, I want to go vertical!"

"Hold on Dave...waiting for it to reload...god Time Warner Cable is horrid"

"Waiting...waiting...nope, still not listed as U/C."

"Alright, I'm heading home."

We don't know for sure yet. It's best to wait for an official release and/or updated DOB filings.

SSC seems convinced that there has been a 100' height reduction. They quote NY YIMBY as also saying this. (no updated DOB's yet, however)

I'm really hoping they are wrong.
The Massing still seems to be for the 1500' version based on the model present at groundbreaking and the latest renders.

That's the way it goes.

As for the height, I hear Durst is being brought in, and to reduce costs they're scrapping the upper part of the building, including the spire. Besides, Durst says, a couple of spires on 42nd Steet is enough contribution to the skyline. No confirmation of any of that though.

Amazing how a new project brings forth a "new view", or attention to some of the Great Art Deco Buildings. I love the tall Art Deco Building. Never noticed it before.

They are actually just turning it into a 3 story supersize Wendy's. The developers are jealous of the one at 15th and Chestnut in Philly drawing the likes of Kimye.

Really? That's a shame, as the spire brought a sense of completion to this one, and it looks much better than what I imagine it would look like without it.

It was posted earlier on SSP...a real shame to be honest. One source stated a nearly 600 foot height reduction () and a far more modest design headed up by...ugh...Gene Kauffman.

Oh, and the worst part is, Gale Brewer struck a deal with Durst to allow her a 50 foot election banner on the building complete with her portrait. How did this tower go so wrong?

In all seriousness, I really hope they don't value engineer this one. I know it's obviously much more utilitarian than the residential towers as Midtown is desperate for modern office space. But the current renderings still look pretty nice.

Lol. What's the real deal? Is there any legit news of downgrades?

Brewer is actually in favor of this tower. Either way, this tower will be built by 2021. It has all the backing it needs. (Minus a few loans which will inevitably come)

Just having a little fun with the worrywarts. Though the Gale Brewer banner would be a nice touch. The building is financed and rising as planned. The only question is whether that will be to 1,501 ft or 1,401 ft. But honestly, there are so many supertalls going up in the city right now, I won't get too worked up about a reduction. It's a brand new iconic skyscraper directly tied into the fabric of the city and region. A win-win all around.

Well that's good. I have a hard time telling what's sarcasm and what isn't. 1,400 is still pretty good, as that's around what 432 Park is.

I also just now learned who Gale Brewer is.
