Tax Breaks Approved For One Journal Square

REID WILSON
NOVEMBER 17, 2015

Quote:
Officially proposed last summer, New Jersey’s Economic Development Authority has approved $93 million in tax breaks for Kushner Companies and KABR Group’s planned 56-story, 744-unit mixed-use tower at One Journal Square, in Jersey City’s Journal Square district. According to the Jersey Journal, WeWork is expected to lease 101,000 square feet of office space on seven floors, and 78,000 square feet of retail space is planned on the bottom two levels. A second tower is also reportedly in the works, although completion of the first is expected in the spring of 2018.

Got a glimpse of this riding down Ferry Street today, and it really stands out in the area. Looks much taller than it really is. Phase 2 should add a nice filler into that void. Something like this though will not be the first. It will be nice to see this node develop in the years to come. Adding several clusters on the NJ side from the waterfront, Journal Square, and Newark. Hopefully Newark will get some of the spill-over in the future, and even Elizabeth. Airport will be an issue, but a nice boom of 12-20 floor high rises could be reasonable.

Wow! I didn't realize that its going to be such a drastic change for JS. All of the projects you listed are above 40 floors and the existing buildings appear to be around ~15 stories tall.

Its quite impressive.

We have tower such as the eclipse, URL 1-3, Journal Square phase 1 and 2 and 3, 99 Hudson, 90 Columbus, 55 Hudson, San Remo ( which should start later in 2016 or early 2017), Trump bay, and hopefully 500 Summit can start up. Its the wicked proposal with the boxes stacked on each other. Almost like the Mumbai billionaire tower.

Plus there are the three towers across the street being built by Kushner. First tower is around 700 ft.

Setting itself apart from the rest, love it. Looking forward to seeing these come out of the ground!

Holy crap, I had no idea this was already under construction. Talk about being a massive impact to the Journal Square skyline.

Just imagine this view in the year 2150, with the entire background filled with dense clusters of supertalls and hanging gardens and maybe some flying cars

Amazing. And a view that's only going to get better over time.
