Tokyo Sky Tree, from Tokyo Meguro-ku, with the Tokyo Tower in the foreground:

With no zoom, it's way off in the background:

Damn, that is going to be one seriously tall structure. Amazing how it will so utterly dominate its part of the city from all angles. It will even stand out from very far away, as the picture above shows.

what i mean is that the architects of this tower designed everything with great proportions and paid attention to every little detail.

guangzhou's tower has a better overall shape, but the lattice structures still looks cluttered, the floors look slanted, there's less 'harmony', and they added (or will) stupid balls that circle the top.

Guangzhou's TV tower is a hyperbolic design, while the Sky Tree is not. I don't even know if there is a term that describes the structural form for Sky Tree... Maybe Japgen(Japanese Genius)

Height of Sky tree is now 303 meters!

BTW, has anyone noticed how nearly all the tower's dimensions are just ever so slightly higher than the CN Tower?

CN Tower main deck: 346 m
Sky Tree main deck: 350 m
CN Tower Sky Pod 446.5 m, roof: 457.2 m
Sky Tree "sky pod": 450 m, roof: 470.88 m

notice that Sky Tree's highest observation deck is only 3.5 m higher than CN Tower observation deck.

It's already incredibly impressive. But I can't help but wish that Tokyo gets some sort of urban makeover like Baron Haussmann's Paris.

That would take awhile. Tokyo is like 50 square miles of urban sprawl.

Yes, it would certainly take awhile, wouldn't it

I swear, sometimes standing on a street corner in Shibuya you feel like the whole population of Calgary or Vancouver is standing around you.

Which probably isn't all that inaccurate... it's definitely an experience. Extreme people watching~

And when you go up to the top of Tokyo Sky Tree, you can take a picture of 10 million people with just one photo, in each direction. Kind of a surreal thought

What neighboring cities will you be able to see from the Sky Tree?

^You should be able to see the Landmark Tower in Yokohama quite well from that height. It's already moderately visible from some of Tokyo's other perches (the day I was there was kinda hazy so it was hard to really make it out).

haha, but then it wouldn't be Tokyo. It's like the difference between Shinjuku stn and Grand Central.

Japan's tallest... what? Tokyo Tower is 333m, so the Skytree is close, but still not the tallest just yet.

Tokyo Sky Tree reaches the base of the first observation deck (320m, the deck goes to 350m). Second observation deck is 450m.

I wonder if they will purposely obstruct the view of the first observation deck with netting, like current Tokyo Tower

So you pay more to go higher to have clear view and pictures.
