It will be interesting to see how the southside changes and grows along with Brooks City Base it's continued expansion, a new Baptist Hospital and large job centers just further south near 1604.

1,500 oil jobs coming to city

"Oil-field-services giant Halliburton Co. began work Thursday on a $50 million base of operations in San Antonio, for which it will need 1,500 workers to support its operations in the Eagle Ford shale...

Halliburton isn't the only oil-field-services company interested in operating in San Antonio. Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. has said it plans to build a $30 million operations center and administrative headquarters in southeastern Bexar County to support drilling in the Eagle Ford shale. The company said its facility, to be built at Interstate 37 and U.S. 181, will employ 400.
Switzerland-based Weatherford International Inc. has said it will build a facility to house and service its hydraulic fracturing equipment on the northwest quadrant of Loop 1604 South and I-37, company officials have said.

And Schlumberger Ltd., the world's largest oil-field-services company with offices in Houston, Paris and The Hague, Netherlands, has told local economic development officials it wishes to establish a site in southern Bexar County."

I'm hearing the City-Base West shopping center will be home to a Landmark movie theater. It would be their fourth in Texas (2 in Dallas, 1 in Houston).

I don't have any info on that one, but it looks like the direction for the "Landmark" property has been put in place and eyed as a Medical Center/Specialty Care hub for NW SA.
Yet ANOTHER hospital is going up besides the Victory.

Alamo City Eyed for yet another Hospital

San Antonio Business Journal by W. Scott Bailey, Reporter/Project Coordinator; Friday, October 21, 2011

Vibrant Healthcare Management LLC, a Dallas-based company, is spearheading the development of a new medical complex on San Antonio's Northwest Side that will include a 145,000-square-foot, acute-care hospital and an 84,000-square-foot medical office building.

The complex, dubbed the Forest Park Medical Center San Antonio, will be constructed on undeveloped land near Interstate Highway 10 and Loop 1604, in the same area where a separate hospital development is planned.

........................

The Forest Park Medical Center San Antonio complex will be located on a portion of a 100-acre tract that is being marketed as The Landmark, and it will be anchored by the multi-story hospital, which could have as many as 60-plus inpatient beds — including 10 intensive care beds and 14 VIP suites.

The hospital will also house a dozen operating rooms, as well as a 24-hour emergency department, pharmacy, imaging services, lab space and a blood bank.
The total cost of the medical center project, which will include an 800-space parking structure, is expected to reach as high as $90 million, according to Alan Beauchamp, managing partner for Vibrant Healthcare. He says construction is slated to begin during the first quarter of next year.

I was just happy to see that it won't include a 20 acre parking lot.

Saw this article in the Economist this week that featured Rackspace and its renovation of the old mall in Windcrest. Very interesting.

Free Ramen!!

Well not really, but Maruchan is building a $325 million plant near 35 south/410 not far from the UP intermodal terminal. They will bring about 600 jobs.

Yes, I know, it is only minimum wage, but keep in mind that 18% of 25 year olds in San Antonio did NOT complete high school.
I do like what it says (to other companies as well) about our logistical capabilities for the midwest and Mexico.

I don't know if this is the final design, but it's scheduled to be complete by 2014.

Is there a reason why they don't call it UTSA-HSC? It would be a big plus for UTSA.

It's because we're not part of UTSA, we're a separate university within the UT System.

Construction to start on carbon-capture plant

By Lori Hawkins

Published: 8:13 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012

Skyonic Corp., an Austin-based carbon-capture firm, has raised $9 million from investors including prominent players in the oil and gas industry to begin construction on a full-scale manufacturing facility.

The company said it has a commitment of $35 million from investors to build the San Antonio facility, which it says will be the first commercial carbon capture and utilization plant in the country. Officials said the plant will demonstrate the viability of capturing and reusing carbon dioxide as a profitable business-scale venture.

Investors in the project are ConocoPhillips, BP, PVS Chemicals and Northwater Capital Management. Also participating were previous investors Zachry Corp. and Carl Berg, a California billionaire real estate investor and venture capitalist.
