CALGARY | The Hat | 88 M / 290 FT | 28 FLOORS

New report for tower.

* The news video refers to it as a 28 storey tower. According to the DP file manager it is 29 storeys.

Loving that Calgary is still getting proposals during the down turn! We will have to wait to see if this gets a shovel in the ground this cycle.

It's a good sign for sure. I remember it being similar in 2009 when DP's were still coming through, but not alot of groundbreaking, so hopefully that's not the case again. I suspect some projects will carry on through the motions right up to the BP stage and then sit and wait.

I'd love to see this go through. The first rental tower in the East Village is a huge deal. If it's successful, hopefully other rental developers will take note! I'm looking at you, BCIMC!

A construction start this fall seems quite aggressive especially during the current economic climate, but if oil continues its short-lived recovery, who knows. Let the good times roll baby! The great thing about rentals is that you don't need pre-sales, and with a targeted completion date of 2017, Calgary would undoubtedly have recovered from this economic issue by then and likely be back growing like crazy, so it's probably smart to be cautiously optimistic.

I think this one has an excellent chance of going forward, just a matter of when. N3 is another EV project that should go, and if rumors of Verve going are true, we'll see a lot of action in EV over the next little while.

I heard that there was a push to get the daycare moved to the east side of the building so that retail could be facing Fifth Street Square, but it failed. No retail in this building, and daycare facing the square. Still a good tower development though.

Too bad about the retail. I guess having the daycare there will generate the nice sound of kids playing.

haha scratch my last post! Looks like there will be a little bit of retail on the north side, facing the Verve Block. That makes this one a full win.

Straight below the Bow building - crane on the right. Can just barely see the orange and white tarps above the trees.
