1) Borden County, Texas: 200 mile radius -> 2,337,041
2) Meagher County, Motana: 200 mile radius -> 1,058,655


3) Somerset County, New Jersey: 200 mile radius -> 50,450,333
4) Somerset County, New Jersey: 175 mile radius -> 45,342,044

5) Los Angeles County, California: 200 mile radius -> 24,548,583

6) Chicago city, Illinois: 200 mile radius - > 25,489,822

I agree. Most of that area is either uninhabited steep mountainous terrain or empty desert lands. Blythe is not "L.A.", however the urbanized I.E. is metro L.A.

Metrolink serves many parts of the I.E. for crying out loud.

Raleigh is 2,661,684 in a 50 mile radius. That is pretty much the Raleigh-Cary metro and the Durham-Chapel Hill metro combined statistical area. Charlotte's is slightly larger at 2,924,191.

50 miles radius of Greensboro includes all of the Triad of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point and comes it at 1,988,681.

Even more impressive is Columbus, Ohio. If you look at a 500 mile radius, some place in Ohio like Columbus captures most of America's population...nearly 140 million, almost half (1/2) of the nation's population.

It includes many of America's biggest metros within that 500 radius (5 mil plus):

New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta, Detroit.

And others: Baltimore, St. Louis, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, etc.

Cool tool. I used to find the 20 largest city populations / all those above 15 million: (as measured from the centre of a metro's core city - you can get higher numbers for some of them by cheating the location a bit or using a smaller neighbouring city/suburb)

The population figures seem to be outdated, at least it seemed that way when I used it on Toronto and got a population of 7,279,897 within a 50 mile radius, although the 2016 census population of the inner core of the Golden Horseshoe (which is completely within the 50 mile radius) was 7,826,367. Including Guelph, the portions of Waterloo Region, Simcoe County, and the parts of Western New York that are also included within that radius, (as well as almost 3 years of population growth), and it would certainly be more in the range of 8.5 million now.
