Saskatchewan...

Saskatchewan, beautiful stranger

I was looking at some pics of Sask. around, and oh my God, it's just beautiful!!!
Downtown Regina seems so dense and pedestrian friendly, and animated, and all those hills and lakes and mountains remind of my sweet Italy, only more pristine and big...

Saskatchewan bring it on! Ok next place to visit is Saskatchewan... which are the most beautiful areas? I guess the central part is hilly, while I have been told the southern part is flat, and i guess the northern part should be shield (so pretty much like Manitoba). Overall Saskatchewan seems to me more hilly then Manitoba in those pics, and quite different.

Are you trying to compensate for the lack of Saskatchewan threads?

maybe

it seems there is a lack of threads in general though

I just love geography and would like to know more about this place which, apart for the tough name and the University, i don't really know

You can any of that and more in Manitoba, Saskatchewan is ridiculously flat. Manitoba isn't hilly by any means compared to mid to Western Alberta, but its like entering a no mans land when you enter Saskatchewan on the highway.

To see what Saskatchewan is really like you actually have to get off the highway instead of whizzing through. There are alot of hidden gems in the province and the only people who can speak for what this province is really like are people from Saskatchewan. It's unfortunate that all this ignorance towards our province exists.

But to help spiritedenergy out.. I'd suggest you visit Saskatoon and Regina. They both have alot to offer along with beautiful natural attractions in the vicinity (Wanuskewin and the South Sask River at S'toon, Last Mtn. Lake and Moose Jaw near Regina) As well, consider seeing the Cypress Hills in the southwestern corner of the province.. beautiful landscape, grasslands, etc. And there's plenty to see in the north.. P.A. National Park is awesome. I could go on for quite some time. Or if you wanted you could just take off on some backroads and see where you end up! haha

Manitoba is much more hilly than you think; you just need to get out of the city and explore our beautiful province; absolutely gorgeous Drive around our great lakes and see how awsome the inland sea's are.

Bottom, every province has it's natural beauty that makes it unique.

You know the Qu'appelle valley is probably one of the most beautiful places i've seen in all of Canada.

It's tough admitting this, because naturally Manitoba is better.

But Sask has some beautiful scenary. If I was rich enough to have a leisure home out in the country, the Qu'appelle valley would definitely be somewhere i'd consider setting up shop.

I have a lot of family living in Saskatoon and Esterhazy, and the topic of Saskatchewan flatness comes up quite often.

An interesting observation my Sask relatives made was that Manitoba is actually a lot more flat, we just have more trees covering the ground.

I'm inclined to agree with them, its Saskatchwan's treelessness that I believe many people confuse for being flat.

The only tree-y spot I remember in Saskatchewan was Jackfish Lake. We spent a few summer weekends there. Hepburn had some scraggly brush which managed to employ a lumberjack. Yes - the town had a resident lumberjack - they lived in a pretty shitty house.

Saskatchewan is NOT flat. If you drove through it for like 5 hours without going over or seeing a hill anywhere, then you're just going around in circles at the salt flats near Morse.

Saskatchewan isn't flat ... they just hide the hills so tourists won't stop.

From those pictures i think Saskatchewan is way more hilly then Manitoba, Manitoba is VERY flat in all the Agassiz basin, which is almost all the southern part, and the shield is rocky but it's still very flat.
I visited quite some places in Manitoba and I've never seen such landscapes; there are hills in Sandilands and Brandon area, plus the escarpment, but not as big as those, and if you drive from Spruce Woods to Whiteshell it's just completely flat.
I think Sask. has more of the ecoregion called "parkland", while Manitoba goes pretty much from flattiness to shield.
Still I know a person from Saskatoon and i asked her: "is Sask. flat like Manitoba?", and she replied "Sask. is veeeery flat". So i think people living in the flat part never go around and keep spreading this bad image of Sask., pretty much like Manitobans saying the all the province is prairie (i've heard it a lot).
