12 stories on a 1/8 block lot. Don't see a lot of those!

Some background on the site: It's owned the First Presbyterian Church of Portland, which is located one block south. The project has had a task force seeking funding for affordable housing on the site for (what appears to be) the past few years. The rendering in the link below is from 2020 and much lower in height. Will be interesting to see what 12 stories looks like, as well as the funding behind it.

Granted 12 stories isn’t nothing to run home about but I can appreciate the density hitting this little area and the west end in general

On such a small lot, that's a good infill development.

But nothing. Good grief.

12 stories on THAT small of a lot? ...for affordable housing? Come on. That IS something to write about and it IS something to be thankful for.

That looks like a design which would scale upward nicely, especially at this location. I wonder if it's the concept they're still working with.

I guess they are atoning for demolishing the Danmoore Hotel in 2005.

Always good to see infill in this part of town, I've always wanted to see those parking lots filled in. And a nice skinny affordable tower(ish) - great stuff!

I was in Portland for that, but forgot that there had been a building on the lot. Can’t believe they got away with tearing down a beautiful building for a parking garage, albeit underground. Don’t see that flying now. What a waste.

My memory is a bit fuzzy about the Danmoore demolition controversy. I believe First Presbyterian Church's agreement was to provide replacement low-income housing on the freeway-adjacent triangular site on the NW corner of SW Alder and 13th (which just had a big rehab project) AND I believe the church was involved in developing the low-income residential Richard Harris Building on the North Park Blocks at NW 8th and W. Burnside. Does anyone recall that or do you know the history?

From what I can find online, CCC's Richard L. Harris building was built to prevent a net loss of very low income housing.

Yes, and from what I remember, First Presbyterian played some kind of role in that building's development because the replacement housing at Alder House Apartments at SW 13th & Alder was not enough to compensate for the loss of the Danmoore apartments.

Not quite, this lot is owned by the First Presbyterian Church - but it is on the block just north of the church itself.

First Presbyterian Church has owned that property for as long as I can remember.
