Tesla will build a lithium hydroxide chemical plant in Texas in what is the first move by an automotive company into lithium chemical production, Benchmark Mineral Intelligence can confirm.

The EV maker will build a spodumene conversion facility adjacent to the Terafactory / Gigafactory 5 in Austin, Texas in what has a typically aggressive start up target of Q4 2022.

Elon Musk’s Boring Company appears to be joining his other entity, Tesla, in Austin, Texas. A Tweet from Musk’s tunneling company has revealed that it will begin hiring for several new positions at the location of Tesla’s most recently-announced production facility.

Potentially big stuff. From the article:

Quote:
According to the Boring Co. website, it will be hiring an Electric Engineer, Lead Electrical Technician, Mechanical Engineer, Power Electronics Engineer, Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Business Development Lead, and a Lead Technical Recruiter in Austin as it looks to expand its presence in the area.

Interestingly, the Boring Company does not have any currently listed projects in Austin or the state of Texas in general. The currently listed projects include the Hawthorne Test Tunnel in Los Angeles, the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, and two prospective plans for underground tunnels in LA and the Baltimore-Washington D.C. metro area.
If you're bringing in a Biz Dev Lead, that's not for a project office in the field. That's homebase kind of stuff.

No to Tesla tunnels until they prove they can move a mass amount of people without a six flags like wait to get on the damn thing.

Gigafactory is going vertical. In addition to all the activity happening on the main site east of SH130, they have started clearing a large area on the west side of SH130.

I didn't see the clearing west of SH130 in that YouTube video that you mentioned, The ATX. Is there a timestamp within that you're seeing that I'm not?

Thanks!

It wasn't that video. It was another one by a different "Quad Squad" member around 15:40.

I'm open to liking Elon is y'all can convince me.... It's just his comments on trans folk, "pedo guy", and my best friend calling herself a "muskette" that really put a bad taste in my mouth.

I do love the idea of Tesla realllly advancing Texas even further with clean energy and transit.

I think Elon's personally a privileged d-bag, but he's also a visionary. Where would electric vehicles be without Tesla? Where would public/private space travel be without SpaceX?

I really try to filter out as much Elon-as-person as possible, and focus on Elon-as-CEO. Sometimes that doesn't always work, and the two identities collide pretty terribly, but most of the time it's useful. Regardless of which identity is steering the ship at any given time, he's going to completely change Austin, and almost certainly for the better.
