It has a Fresh Plus grocery story on the ground floor according to the rendering.

I'm surprised we aren't talking about this (x-posted in Projects and Construction, Plaza Saltillo, and Updates threads):

Quote:
The vision/conceptual plan is by Torti Gallas and Partners. Michael Hsu is the lead local architect, so the aesthetics will match the design sensibilities of his other popular projects, including the ZACH Theatre, 04 Mixed-Use Development (Perla’s), and Lamar Union.

Before breaking down the details on the final Plaza Saltillo development, I’ll venture a guess that the office tenant will be a major tech company. I find it peculiar that there was no office space envisioned when Endeavor pitched to become the site developer, which leads me to believe the office space is not being built on spec, but on the signed line of an anchor tenant. Further, I’ve heard recently from a credible source that a major Fortune 500 tech giant is flirting with a sizable investment in Austin’s urban core. Again, this is just a semi-informed guess, but there you have it.

The Chicon mixed-use project achieved a major milestone late last month when neighbors and community members gathered for a groundbreaking celebration in east Austin.

In the making for the past three years, h+uo architects is proud to be helping usher this important neighborhood revitalization project into reality.

n Phase 1, two of the three buildings, The Joyce Building and the Gibbs Building, will be built at the intersection of 13th and Chicon St. in east Austin. Phase 1 is expected to be completed in December of 2016.

Nifty. I like that this design breaks up the usual monotony of these mixed-use projects. In fact, seeing this makes me realize that it's the monotony on the horizontal dimension that I most dislike about most of what's going up on the east side. This is a refreshing change.

The Rail at MLK Station

Proposed 6-story residential on E. 17th St. project by Lone Star Development Partners.

Edit: No rendering for this one yet, the one at the link below is for a project in Seattle.

I'm tallying about 1,150 units on East 5th street between IH-35 and Chicon that are either under review or under construction, plus an undetermined number at one of the MUs. For E. 7th street there are about 400 units at various stages.

I have not heard anything on the RBJ expansion for quite a while.

The RBJ expansion is still happening. I attended an East Cesar Chavez planning team meeting 2 or 3 months ago and a group of the developers gave a presentation on the expansion. There will be a large grouping of 4-5 story units around the RBJ tapering down to shorter units as they get closer to single family homes. The developers are wanting to connect Navasota st through the property as a main thoroughfare to connect to to Waller st near Flores st if I remember correctly.

There's also been a new apartment complex proposed where the failed Cesar Chavez hotel was supposed to go. Here's some info/renderings:

Great. Is there a plan online? Punching Navasota through is a good idea. Living in this neighborhood I am not opposed to more than 4-5 stories as RBJ is already 14 (or more).

Yes I heard the new units on C. Chavez will be micro and I expect less opposition to this compared to the hotel. That is ironic given that one of the arguments against the hotel was the traffic it generated and the fact that it was slated to be 65 rooms versus 260 micro units in the latest plan.

2400 East 6th (just west of Pedernales and south of Hidalgo) was recently rezoned to 'CS-V' and is slated to have 208 homes plus ground floor retail. http://tcr.com/new_development/alexan-east-6th/.

According to a Trammell Crow rep I contacted they look to break ground within the next 60 days. The current plan is to allow pedestrian and bike access to the western side of the property (next to the Cap Metro line) between 6th and Hidalgo which is huge! The grid in this area is amazing and I'm happy that TRC had the foresight to include this important connection.

Here's an early rendering:

And here is the site as seen from my balcony:

The project includes the western half of this property. If you look carefully at the above photo and can make out the long wall with the ~20' wide overhead door, this building and it's neighbor to the east (one building but the roof makes it look like two) will remain and is still zoned 'LI' I believe.

.

The crane is up and they are now starting on the second story.

In regards to the RBJ center redevelopment, here are a few basic drawings of the different layouts. They went with option C according to Austin Towers.

Here's another view from RBJ's facebook page:

Edit: The full RBJ Master Plan can be seen here:

I wish they had gone with another tower instead. That thing looks like the Pentagon.

I thought "East Austin Hotel" was at 1108 E 6th? How can 2 projects have the same name?

Kevin, the plans you posted call it "East Sixth and Chicon Hotel." Do you have a link to its permit page? I can't find it by searching its address.

The "East Austin Hotel" that I remember can still be found by searching the 1108 address. It's closer to I35.

Yeah, you're right. I read the title from the side of the document (which is turned 90 degrees).

The 1108 E 6th hotel is La Corsha hospitality group, right? I remember them buying the land when Cheer Up Charlies got the boot and La Corsha opened Wonderland in the former building.

So, the 1817 E 6th hotel will replace the Goodwill Career Center? Is that correct? Whisler's and Thai Kun are going to see a huge bump in business once it's done.

There's an FAA permit for a 30 foot retail building. It doesn't list the address, but it gives the longitude and latitude as being north of 71 at FM 973 (just northeast of the airport). They're in the process of widening 973 and building a new bridge there.
