65% of the jobs are unskilled, not necessarily $15 /hour.

Living wage of $15/hour - construction and permanent labor force Average annual salary $47,147

A site plan was filed today for the "Bobcat Project". It's an industrial facility being built on 150 acres. The address maps to the Giga Texas site. Any ideas?

They are supposedly doing ground prep for the Cathode and Lithium Hydroxide production facility east of the huge parking lot, unconfirmed though. That could be part of this "Bobcat project." They also have recently begun ground clearing just east of the Martin Marietta Ready Mix plant which has the same address referenced in the site plan, 13101 Harold Green Dr. Whatever they are building is huge, 6543147.6 square feet on 150 acres!

The Engineer for the "Colorado River Project" is listed under Tesla's CA address FWIW.

After having tweeted that Austin needs to step up on housing construction, I wouldn't be surprised if Elon built some cheap temporary apartment units for employees transitioning from out of town. Allows them a place to stay for 6-12 months while searching for permanent housing.

If he built 400 units at a cost of $50k/unit, the total cost of $20M can be amortized over 20 years at which time they could tear it down if they chose. That's $1M per year they would have to collect from the employee renters. The idea is to charge renters at cost.

$1M ÷ 400 renters ÷ 12 months = $208 monthly rent

Throw in an extra $200 for maintenance and admin staff and it's still a great benefit for their employees who may be finding it difficult to locate affordable housing. They could probably construct 400 units within a couple of months if they moved at the same pace as they did with the first building.

Report: Tesla planning another facility in eastern Travis County
Another facility is in the works on Tesla's 2,500 acres.

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — As construction continues on Tesla's $1.1 billion Gigafactory, plans are already underway for yet another facility nearby.

According to a report from the Austin Business Journal, documents filed on April 30 indicate the company is working on a "Bobcat Project" off Harold Green Road.

Although details are limited, the report states that Tesla's Colorado River Project LLC had already purchased more than 2,500 acres outside of Austin. So it's no surprise the company is working on more developments.

One of the major Tesla websites thinks that Project Bobcat is NOT a battery production facility. They think the battery facility is already included in the Gigafactory footprint itself.

This is something else.

My understanding is the new Project Bobcat work they started on the east side is for a new Lithium Hydroxide refinery to make material for the battery cathode.
https://insideevs.com/news/446124/te...y-giga-austin/

The final assembly of the 4680 battery cells themselves will take place in the main factory (specifically the northwest corner). That might explain the discrepancy.

That is indeed a lot of land.

Might be time to invest in some housing in Hornsby Bend, methinks...

I hate to be a rumor proliferating dick and have always preferred to post facts. But I have had some info for several weeks that the current 10K employment plans for Tesla/Elon Musk companies in Austin is "only the beginning". I know it sucks, but I can't post any more info without someone figuring out where my info is coming from.

And freerover, I know where Elon's home in the Austin area is, but I'm not going to be a dick and post anything else about it.

West Lake Hills...on the lake...on the back side of Davenport Ranch. I'm not going to give the name of the road. But, you could easily drive up to his gate.

Heard they're acquiring an additional 1k contiguous acres to the 2,500 acres they currently own if that's any indicator of their future plans.

They haven't acquired it yet as far as I know, but they are trying to for future plans. The problem is that the cat is out of the bag concerning SE Austin development, and prices are soaring.

That video had a brief drone view of my favorite downtown viewing angle - Rainey District looking West along the river:
