We have banked there since 1927. I remember going into the vaults with my dad as a child. The offices on the mezzanine are wood panelled with fireplaces. Just beautiful..
I so hope it finds a respectful use similar to the historic BNS on Portage Avenue.

That's a fantastic idea. I honestly haven't been able to think of anything other than some sort of venue/restaurant that would be a good fit for the space, and keep it fairly active.
Considering most of our archives are in a warehouse right now – that would be an awesome use. City of Winnipeg Archives & Museum. Love it. Great location for it not only being right at P&M – but close to The Forks and in a prominent central space for tourists and locals.

Not sure if it's been fully implemented yet, but the Corydon-Osborne masterplan that was created a few years ago calls for mid-rise mixed use (up to 5 storeys/60 ft) on the blocks close to Stafford and Pembina, and low rise mixed use (max 45 feet) between Wentworth and Daly.
It's a little ridiculous considering how much the city loves to talk about "precedent" when within this "low density" zone there's already a
10 storey apartment at Arbuthnot, and a
7 storey quasi-industrial building at Daly. That should be the standard/precedent. If we need to enact setbacks and height stepbacks, fine, but there's already mid-rise buildings in that area, so why not let there be more if developers are willing to build that density.
