Also, I think EB 100 at St. Mary's desperately needs increased left turn storage capacity. I was there at around 3:00 (not even rush hour) and the left turning cars were backed up right into the passing lane of the Perimeter. It's a dangerous situation considering there is a lot of non-local traffic around there that wouldn't expect such a weird obstacle on a major highway... MIT should be adding a second left turn lane there.
The whole mess with the left turns between St Anne's and Lagimodiere has more or less been rectified. It'll be great when the South Perimeter overhaul gets rid of the little local road RIRO access points too since there are access points really close by, and it will just generally improve the safety of that stretch. The CPR crossing also needs to be either grade separated immediately or completely fixed. The bump over the tracks is so severe that in the winter, when the big transports et al. have snow and ice shaken loose, the cars coming over the tracks are in real peril of losing control once they hit all that ice/slush.

The CP crossing is the responsibility of the railway to keep in good order. They are responsible for the crossing and usually about 25 feet from the center of the rail tracks on single line tracks.

If enough drivers contact CP's community connect dept @ 1-800-766-7912 or email community_connect@cpr.ca and let them know about the rough crossing they may do something about it sooner rather than later.

^ Appreciate the feedback but the powers that be are certainly aware. They installed a bump sign last year and a 80km/h sign. They fully intend not to do anything about it.

Now this is starting to sound more and more like Metro Vancouver's South Fraser Perimeter Road...

The worst thing one can do is say "oh we have a problem, let's reduce the speed." terrible.

There is a difference between CP and MIT just knowing about it and them reacting to a large number of complaints.

I'm sure if both agencies hear about it enough track replacement budgets can be juggled to fix it in 2020 instead of 202X

It is a major improvement so far, however it appears that the intersection with Plessis is not being touched (this is arguably the most dangerous of them all as it is right at a curve on the highway), and not sure what the plan is with Symington Rd intersection. They are in process of adding left turn lanes in both directions, will this become a lighted intersection? Certainly not advocating for another light on that highway but if not it appears uncontrolled cross traffic would still be allowed. Which is one of the main problems MIT was trying to eliminate from my understanding.

Anyone know the final plans for Plessis and Symington intersections?

The overhaul plan eliminates the plessis access and adds a diamond interchange at symington. Not sure in the near term though. Probably just a slightly safer uncontrolled access with the turn lanes.

And sadly something this province is in short supply of but of course you could advocate for higher taxes like a certain failed provincial party but whose members pay little to none!

We DO indeed need Bobby Dollas back! ... looking him up, that was one long and odd career he ended up having - becoming a regular about a decade after the Jets drafted him and playing in the NHL as late as 2000-01. Anyone with that level of perseverance would be an ideal champion for highway improvement.

Bobby Dollas

I rarely go on the perimeter, but was preparing for an event on Friday at the corn maze all week. Wow, that intersection of the perimeter and St. Mary's is horrifying – even in the middle of the day in perfect weather. It's so poorly designed and the yellows/all-way reds aren't nearly long enough to clear the intersection properly, and the road alignment is so bad N-S. Can't imagine having to cross their regularly in the winter...

^ Exactly. What I find surprising is that there is no effort made at improvement at all... fair enough if there isn't $100 million for a new interchange, but maybe someone can scrounge up $20 million for improved turn lanes and realignment, just to make it a little less death-trappy?

It was inadequate when St Mary’s was a country road. Back before Bishop Grandin was built, we used to have to drive down there to go to the U of M, and I recall that it seemed dangerous even then. That so little has been done with it as St Vital has doubled (at least) in population is very strange. They really should put a turnoff from the westbound Perimeter to northbound Dakota Street to take some of the pressure off St Mary’s.

I’m starting to wonder whether Highway 101’s easier to convert to a freeway than Highway 100.
