Nice. I like the direction they're going with this. At first, I didn't really care about preserving the history of an ugly little intake building but I guess it can be cool maybe?

Although, I feel like it would be cooler to emphasize Austin rather than "Seaholm" with this area. Just make it about Austin. Visitors are not going to know what Seaholm is and it's not interesting enough for them to care about it.

Jesus... they’re STILL doing imaginary renderings for this place?? Not to be a negative Nancy, but this seems almost as dead as the old congress ave bakery “idea-a-thon” ...smdh

To be clear: I really love all the proposals, they just never seem to go far.

Well, the article chundercracker posted gives a detailed backstory of why it seems that way

Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool to keep some of the historical integrity of the facility, but I also feel like they are going overboard which is limiting the options of what they could do with it. It's an old intake building not the actual power plant. I don't see why they had to trash the origional proposals over concerns with keeping it as historically accurate as possible. It is possible to highlight the historical aspects while at the same time making the most use of the space for maximum possible uses.

Seaholm Waterfront study produces a plan that PARD recommends

Quote:
Seven years ago, the Seaholm Intake building along the shores of Lady Bird Lake was turned over to the Austin Parks and Recreation Department, and it has since stood waiting for change.

Now, after months of study, community input, and a partnership between the parks department, The Trail Foundation and the Austin Parks Foundation, there is a three-phase plan to transform this building into a public hub with water access.

After reviewing the proposal at their July 24 meeting, the members of the Parks and Recreation Board unanimously offered their recommendation for it to go before Council.
Here's a Link to the Studio Gang presentation

Here's screen shots of some of the renderings:

Interestingly enough, per Towers, it was just presented to the HLC a couple of weeks back, and the first phase of the construction was approved. So . . . maybe we'll see something soonish?

Austin’s Seaholm Waterfront Project Finally Moves Forward Next Week

https://austin.towers.net/austins-se...ard-next-week/

Can you tell we’re excited about the Seaholm Waterfront project? Our antsy coverage of the city’s plan to adapt the historic 1950s former intake building of the also-former Seaholm Power Plant into a new public space and venue on Lady Bird Lake has followed the project’s various stages of imagination since long before the appearance of a master plan for the space by famed design firm Studio Gang in 2018, and after a lot of waiting and one pandemic we’re happy to report the plan will hit a milestone toward realizing its first all-important phase at City Council’s meeting next week

Part of me is surprised they're not turning it into an AthenaHealth office.

LOL, I'll never get over my bitterness about that decision. Probably the dumbest thing the city council ever did.

Same here. So incredibly stupid. I wonder how long they're locked into their lease? I would want to kick them out so quickly for something available to the public.
