Question waterview website updated

Hiya guys,

not sure if you guys noticed that but the Construction Status Pictures have been updated. Last one was from 6/18 and now a new one from 7/28 was added. It says: Work continues of the hotel portion of the building. I guess that should be a good sign or not?

Give it time. This tower will get done sooner or later.

Well, they are trying to keep up the impression that the construction is going on, hence the "update" on the website. The only activity on Waterview is a regular walk-around performed by a security guard and an occasional maintenance worker who changes a light bulb when one burns out and maybe sweeps up the cobwebs.

I've always found it odd that the forms were removed from the core and some of the larger columns, but not the smaller ones. Is there any particular reason why?

I believe the only form work left on the building are those associated with work that was in the process of being formed at the time things stopped. My assumption would be that they simply felt it was ok to leave that work in place rather than remove it and have to start over again when things got started again.

What kind of things should be done to prepare WVT for the upcoming Chicago winter? Can they just leave everything as is exposed to the elements?

How many winters can this (and any other building without a facade or curtain wall that seals the structure) stand unprotected without suffering any serious damage?

Ive always wondered how long uncoated rebar can be allowed to sit and rust exposed to the elements without issues. Perhaps the rust is very thin but seeing the red-brown streaks on the concrete grow larger is disconcerting. I suspect the steel is OK considering sheet piles used for seawalls last for decades.

It's fine as long as the city doesn't spray salt on it this winter or if Will Smith shows up to film "I am Legend"- the sequel....

I think you mean "I-Robot" - the sequel. "I Am Legend" doesn't leave too much room for a sequel with Will Smith if you know what I mean.
Spoiler: SMITH'S CHARACTER DIES

Haha so true...although the deadness at this site definitely fits the stage for the I Am Legand setting, lol!
