Nope, not real marble. It’s a composite of some kind. Real marble would be very nice, but would be super expensive, especially that much up, it would probably cost $150k or more. It’s still going to look nice though, much better than most of the faux finishes that you see nowadays.

It’s not as strange as it looks. It’s what they call paper and wire, it’s what goes up before the stucco gets applied.

I believe this is marble. The weight would be significant, but could still hold up. If it was composite, they would have styrofoam pieces in between.

The more I look at it, the more I think you are right. If that is indeed marble, then what a great looking place is going to be.

They appear to be going all out on every other aspect so why not with the marble?

I can only imagine the quality of marble/stone used inside; the kitchen island(s) will probably be spectacular.

It's too bad that this isn't (probably) a spec home, so that interior shots when it's complete are publicly available.

Photos of the completed interior would be great.

I'm no fan of the house pictures but I'm a fan of self imposed thread police even less so... this is the Calgary construction thread and the house is under construction. There are only two skyscrapers under construction in Calgary right now and one is almost complete, so there isn't that much to talk about skyscraper wise.

Only two? Are there not a number of condo towers under construction that are going to be fairly tall?

I think so, if you say skyscraper = 150m, which is the accepted definition, then it's only Telus Sky and (just) one of the west village towers.

I've never seen that definition before. The complex on 11 & 11 S.W. is supposed to be 138 meters which is 453 feet. Sounds like a skyscraper to me.

Now we’re talking!

'Tallest residential tower in the city' proposed for Beltline site near Elbow River

MEGHAN POTKINS, CALGARY HERALD
Updated: April 18, 2019

A massive 55-storey residential tower is being proposed for a blighted but highly visible corner of the Beltline, wedged between a neglected stretch of the Elbow River and Macleod Trail. The tower would be the first phase of an ambitious three-tower project with 1,252 residential units, with retail and restaurants on the ground level, and an above-grade parkade with a large rooftop running track and dog park.

If approved by city council, the project would be the tallest residential tower in the city...

That's typical for the definition of a skyscraper, usually around 500' or 150m. Anything less would be considered a highrise.

The only building I would consider a skyscraper under construction in Calgary is Telus Sky. It’s also the only interesting tall building that is under construction.

The definition of a skyscraper is 150m. Supertalls are 300m.

Here is my idea of skyscrapers. Something tall.

Exactly. Even though the definition is 150 m, 200 m is more what I consider a skyscraper.
