My head. I just looked at the stats and figured "About 44 years should do it" and made up that time line.

If we reach 1,000,000 by 2050, Winnipeg's population would have to increase by around 7200 per year (300,000 divide by 42).

With Vids prediction around 6,800 per year.

Maybe the real question is will I still be alive when Winnipeg population reaches 1 million?

Thinking about, I'll be old be 2050. Maybe there will be a new old?

no way at the current rate (census 2006) it will be 878 208 by 2050. According to my calculations the metro population will reach 1M in 2074, But the growth rate has doubled since the 2001 census so it is possible but unlikely. Very unlikely since winnipeg is no longer a super power and a money magnet.

Our Immigration numbers are double what they used to be; less people are moving away; more coming back...it can be achieved.

By the way someone sad it should grow a certain amount of people per year, that is false since it will grow slower at first and grow with more people. The correct rate should be 4,2269077% per 5 years (censuses) and right now it is 2,7, not looking to good.

Immigration is 10,000 now. and there planning to increase it to 20,000 by 2020 with a increase of 1,000 new immigrants a year. If a majority of them stay in Winnipeg, the population can go up.

Also if less people move away from the city and province this will also help.

Then there is the birth/deaths rate which I have a feeling will be decreasing when the baby boomers come to the age.

Limiting supply creates demand. Basic economics!
Besides money can raise the roof at MTS Centre for an extra level if needed.
