While the latest image is somewhat better, it definitely does nothing to enhance the view of the skyline from the north, which is by far the least desired vantage point of our growing sideline.

Are you saying that because the building is ugly or that it will block the view that exists today?
Seems as though this could have a substantial impact on our skyline from the north. Either way, let's hope it will be a catalyst along with Waller and the burying of I-35 (fingers crossed on that last one) for this area. Still don't understand how appears to have bungled the Brack deal so bad--that Brandywine proposal was amazing!

The best thing about this project IMO is that it will help jump start a relatively dead spot downtown. That Sheraton has been going it alone for decades.
Development in this area is starting to rival Rainey St. when it comes to the difficulty in projects getting started. This seems like the only project ready to start. The two Velocity tracts, Hotel Mirabeau and Brackenridge don't look too promising right now.
In one of the permit filing attachments for the Alexan I did see a reference about informing the "lender" about an issue related to the tiebacks and excavation. So it apparently has financing.
This has been #1 on my list of next big projects to be breaking ground for a few months now. But it may be losing that #1 position soon. Has anyone been by the site lately to see if it's fenced off or has any activity? Maybe there's one of those Christopher Sherman drone photos that show something.

It's coming soon. 100% a go. Riding by the site is a waste of time. 100% full steam ahead It is just a matter of when the demo of the existing building begins.

What’s the hold up? Or is it on schedule and we just don’t know?
This may be why it hasn't started yet. A site plan correction (SC) permit was filed. SC permits are filed for changes to approved site plans. No details about the changes are attached to it yet.
Here's another reason why it hasn't started. A demo permit for the site was filed just today. I'm not at all worried about this project - just impatient.
Here's a week old article about the project from ATX Real Estate News. The main take away is that Bank of America provided a $76 million+ loan for the project. Also, the Demo permit was approved. Demo should be imminent.
