The W
The Independent
Frost or Austonian- probably Frost, but it is too short and stubby

UT Tower and Capitol Dome are in a different category

Save that selection for the bottom 3. Can't argue with those. Bottom 3 survey is coming soon but not next.

I’m a fan of UT Tower and the Capitol but I also feel they’re sort of in a different category, as they’re definitively historic/cultural, so for vertical high rises... I’ll go with (and this isn’t in a particular order):

1) The Monarch
2) The Independent
3) Frost Bank Tower

This was so difficult though. I think Northshore, 70 Rainey, Hotel ZaZa, and Seven are cool too. Lived in the Bowie for a bit and loved it as a building.

One Eleven Congress for an older one, especially with the new Fairground.

New Library and federal courthouse for mid-rises.

Man, still so many I feel like I’m leaving out.

Ok, here are the results of the first Top 3 Survey. But first thanks to you all for participating. You no doubt changed the lives of millions of people from around the world.

20 people took the survey.

Frost is the run away winner with 15, or 75% of you guys putting it in your top 3.
The Capitol Building came in a distant 2nd capturing 30%.
The UT Tower and the Independant tied for 3rd with 25%.
The Austonian, Norwood, and 360 was mentioned by 20%.
15% of us thought One American Center and Spring belonged in the top 3.
111 Congress and The W was put on the podium by 2 of us, 10%.
Bank of America, 70 Rainey, Fairmont, Proper ZaZA, Northshore, and the Monarch each had a least one person who thought they were worthy of a top 3 ranking.

My take away, I was somewhat surprised regarding the high percentage of folks putting Frost way above all the others on this list. I predict it will score high again if this survey is repeated in 10 years. Glad and also surprised to see 2 other people place Spring on their top 3.
By including the Capitol in the 2nd highest top 3 ranking, I am pleased so many of you find this building so beautiful and important to the downtown skyline. Also surprised that the Indy beat the Austonian.
I didn't see anything on the list that wasn't worthy.

NEXT SURVEY. What are your Top 3 favorite buildings, proposed or under construction. This may be tough because I can think of more than three, but, only 3 please, 10 floors or higher in the downtown area only. Think of it this way, if you could only have 3 built to completion, which 3 would they be?
Survey starts now and ends 9PM Sunday. Take a moment to be heard and lets save a few more lives in the process.

Frost moves on to the final summary / commentary / debate.

3. Dorsey (pushing the boundaries of East Austin heightwise)

Honorable Mention goes to 300 Colorado.

1.) Railyard East and West
(I know it’s just a “vision”, but it’s a $104Million vision, just for starters.)
2.) The Republic
3.) Tower 5C

If we had renderings or at least elevations for the ATX Towers, they might be 1 and 2. The same goes for Block 190 which might then be 3. But based on the projects far enough a long to have renderings and/or elevations available:

6XG
Republic
5C

No explicit order. This question was even harder than the last.

1. The Sail (Google Tower)
2. 90 Rainey
3. 6 X Guad

3 Honorable mentions: The Republic, Natiivo, and The Avenue. If the Railyard Project was built nearly identical to that vision rendering, that project would be in my Top 3, but for purposes of this survey I only want to include towers with more developed and concrete (no pun intended) designs.

Other note: I doubt 405 Colorado “The Molar” will get any votes, but I’m really interested to see how that turns out. I think the final product may surprise us.

I bent the rules the first time around since I was having trouble deciding on such different buildings (old and new) and all of the ones in the pipeline versus what is standing today, so I added proposed and under construction. Anyway, here's my list again in those two categories. By the way, we totally need an ugly list and ones we'd like to see turned to dust and the ones that got away and never happened.

Under construction

Block 185 Tower
Indeed Tower
Austin Marriott Downtown

Proposed
6 X Guadalupe
The Republic
Tower 5C
