Hopefully the fire can be put out soon! Also the reason of the fire.

It's a reinforced concrete building.

The fire looks like it was contained to the top one or two levels.

It will be mostly fine.

Very shocking and sad to see. I hope it will just be a temporary delay in construction, though i imagine they will have to see if the fire impacted any structural integrity.

It was not contained to just the top floors at one point the entire structure was burning.

It will make another national headline for how thugs are burning things down here.I recall when the condo near Ikea was burned down by arsonists and one on Maryland while back and had to be rebuilt.

It certainly doesn't look like the entire structure was burning. From the photos of the fire and the aftermath, it looks like it was the top floor or two, plus a second fire on the roof of the 2nd floor presumably started by falling debris (which spread to the exterior wall of the floors immediately above).

I was watching the fire live most of the pictures were from right at the start; as at its worst you could see multiple floors on fire probably from falling debris... but you’re right looks like the top two floors took the worst of it.

From the aftermath you can see that, aside from the top, most of the structure wasn't on fire. There's an area of the 3rd-6th floors where the insulation on the exterior wall burned off. That probably looked pretty dramatic on the video, but it seems that it was just the exterior wall and not the floors themselves that burned.

Look at the live cam – there was clearly huge flames on floors 3~7, a huge part of the wall is burnt out.

The top floor had just been poured yesterday where it looks to have started... could it not have been faulty hoarding and heaters?

Is it likely that it has insurance? If it has insurance I imagine things will be better off for them.

They need insurance - can't build without it.

The biggest issue with this fire will be mitigating the smoke damage (odour) rather than anything structural - IMO.

If you are willing to self-insure (aka assume the risk of non third party insurance) you can do just about anything. I think outside of workers comp, autopac and driver licensing there is no mandatory insurance in Manitoba.

Banks won't finance without insurance and I doubt these folks are paying cash to build

Most construction contracts are CCDC in MB. And there are several layers of insurance required.

And to echo the above, financing is usually dependent on insurance.

Whole area smelled like stale smoke today.
