it's a urban advocates wet dream, isn't it?
Oh yes, the odd building design aside, I think it's great to have this kind of infill development here. Would love to see a lot more of it on and near major streets like St. Mary's.

The only explanation for the way it looks is that the landlord wanted to inflict revenge on the neighbourhood for blocking the initial proposal.

I agree with Jeff though re: the Promenade Bistro building. That has to be one of the most marketable locations in the city. There are few if any sites in Winnipeg where a moderately scaled (4 to 6 storey) building would have such amazing views. I can't help but think that if you put 40 condos on the market in there at a reasonable price, that they'd be snapped up fast.
If there was such a demand to build condos where The Pal was, surely this should be the same.

I don't get the uproar. High end, nice looking. What's the problem. Should fill the whole neighbourhood with stuff like this.

$400k for a 1000 sq ft new build on the river is quite reasonable. Lots of greenspace nearby and of course downtown is right there. Sounds pretty sweet.

Website says this:

2.A pair of two storey mixed-use buildings each containing one mixed-use unit and one residential unit (live-work units) on Taché Avenue and Rue Darveau;

We'll see how CRU's do back there. Not much through traffic.

If CRUs on Provencher can barely find tenants, I'm not holding out much hope for ones on Tache... anything that opens up will likely be completely oriented to destination traffic, like a doctor's office, insurance agency, etc.

Bothwell Cheese Expands to St. Boniface
Published: Feb 21, 2018 @ 9:58am
Author: Liz Byron

Bothwell Cheese is expanding its operations. The company recently announced plans to open its first standalone retail location in St. Boniface under the name Fromagerie Bothwell. The store, which will be located at 136 Provencher Boulevard, at the foot of the Provencher Bridge, will feature cheese, of course—blocks, slices, shredded cheese, fresh cheddar, and curds—but also other food items and locally made products.

The company anticipates a spring 2018 opening of the store, once interior and exterior renovations are complete.

To coincide with the announcement, Bothwell Cheese was out in St. Boniface over the February long weekend. The company’s cheese was featured in the first-ever cheese-carving competition at the Festival du Voyageur on Sunday, February 18. Six artists each carved 40-pound blocks of aged white cheddar.

The New Bothwell company, which began in 1936 as a coop of dairy farmers looking for a use for their extra milk, now produces more than 15,000 kilograms of cheese daily and has won countless international awards.

Looks great. Interesting to note it says "craft beer" in the window, along with "ice cream."

from what i've seen of the pizza hotline renovation, they got rid of the gelati counter. so if there was a market for that, it's for someone else to take now.. "vanilla cheese curd in a waffle cone please?"
