The Cook residence is one of the topics up for discussion at tonight's council meeting.

The Cook residence was given Heritage status last night. All councillors except Mancinelli voted yes on heritage status. Hawkins clearly was aware this owner was looking at putting condos on that lot.

Thumbs up

Thanks for posting, Stormer. Two of those stations were way before my time, but not the Co-op as I vaguely remember it.

Proposed GTP Station Albert and College. I believe there is a better photo somewhere.

Actual Station throughout the 1910's at Angus and College

Thanks for posting this, Stormer. I don't believe I had ever seen a photo of the original train station or the rendering of the one that was to have been built. The proposal would have complemented the hotel nicely. Too bad neither were built.

Yes the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway ran along College (then called 16th Ave) to the Lewvan line which of course was where Lewvan drive is today.

I take it that the lines along Albert and such refer to streetcar lines?

That's correct. Regina Municipal Railway = streetcars

Is this the reason why there is a long series of back alleys running parallel just north of College Avenue from Albert to Montague (and towards Broad street also)?

You have that listed as Angus and College, but I saw while snooping through some archives today that it may have been Rae and College, or perhaps moved west. And I THINK it's still there, just unrecognizable...

It was between Angus and Rae. It was where the apartment high rise is now. The 1912 Henderson Directory says 2720 16th Ave (College).

I'd never seen the design of the actual station (or really known about it), but Historical Regina is putting on a lecture tomorrow at the Artesian about the Regina Mawson plan from the early years, and the station appears to be there:

Here is the zoomed out colour version of the Mawson plan, but with no legend. I never really noticed before that the GTP station was to face east, straight down College. Also in place of the Qu'Appelle Hotel, he has a Civic Centre. This was about 1905 I believe.
