SAN ANTONIO | The Saint Hotel | 7 FLOORS | 74 FT | Canceled

Here's a project I haven't seen on this Forum yet. I work about two blocks from the site. They demolished the existing building a couple months ago and I saw a "coming soon" sign go up earlier this week.

Edit: Nevermind just realized that was the exchange building lol. Weird angle. But this will be a good addition to that area for sure. hopefully between that and the Hedrick building redevelopment, it'll stir some more activity up over there.

Drove by the site today and noticed a for sale sign is now up for the property. This hotel dead? Scaffolding is also being put up against the adjacent building.

Meh. If this was only going to be seven floors, it’s not the end of the world that it didn’t get built. It’s literally right on the river, surely they can do better.

That is always my thinking - I don't think anything less than 300 ft should be built on prime real estate. And for 74 ft, even that seems off for 7 floors.

However, this site is really small. It does seem like a pretty building. But I agree with your perspective.

Looks like this is officially dead per the Express news.

"High construction costs and an influx of new hotel rooms downtown have led Dallas hotelier Mark Wyant to scrap his plans for a 100-room boutique hotel on the River Walk.

Construction was scheduled to begin this spring on the seven-story hotel, which would have been part of the Saint Hotel chain operated by Florida-based Seaside Hospitality Corp. A one-story Depression-era building at 151 E. Travis St. was demolished to make way for it."

Lovely... developers from elsewhere coming in, only to pull out from their project after they destroy our urban fabric.

The site is restricted to 7 floors because of the requirements for 5 hours of river sunlight.

The "urban fabric" was a 1 story condemned building full of asbestos.

Learn something before denigrating it gentlemen.

... okay, my point was not that the old building should have stayed, but that the project falling thru is a disappointment.
