Hyatt Place Hotel - current status.

They must be behind in their construction schedule. They were still working on the fourth floor this evening, well after dark.

Now that I see it it seems like a waste, that in such a prominent location, its only going to be 4 stories tall. Still will be nice though.

Very neat photo showing them pouring concrete for the fourth floor of the Hyatt Place Hotel, presumably from Friday night (I could see them working up there when I went to the Cats game at the Avenir Centre).

from the Rice Contracting FB page

Baton Rouge

Anyone else hear rumors that Baton Rouge is looking for investors for this location?

My how things change..........

And FWIW, George was right! The whole idea of moving the "events centre" downtown was to create a new development node on the west end of the core, and to bring people back downtown. This vision belonged to George LeBlanc and Ian Fowler. Their vision is starting to bear fruit, the latest addition being the Hilton Garden Inn, with Tannery Place and (hopefully) the Home 2 Suites to follow. Also can't forget about the new Codiac RCMP HQ.

Your photos were from only 4.5 years ago. I'll be interested to see things again in another 4.5 years.........

Seriously think this hotel is a waste in that space...it could have created such a substantial building there with all that space.

A waste of space would be leaving it empty. A pretty little building is nice for now. I personally like the cute hotel.

I have no issue with the hotel, I just think it could have been 'much' more substantial. I agree leaving it empty would be worse, however I knew that wouldn't happen.

Not sure if it was ever mentioned but I heard in passing that the restaurant occupying the Hyatt will be Apple-bee's. Not sure how much credence there is to this I would call it a rumor as this person has been hit or miss with info before but I find it interesting they have the same parent company as IHOP does and they are entering the market around the same time the hotel should open.

Interesting pick-up.

IHOP did say they had a "relationship" with Corey Craig, and Corey Craig is building the Hyatt Place. This instantly lends credence to this rumour.........

Applebee's would be a good choice to cater to the Avenir Centre crowd. It would also be unique in the Atlantic Canadian market. There used to be an Applebee's in Halifax but it closed at least five years ago. It was in a bad location in a suburban strip mall up by Lacewood.

The nearest Applebee's is in Bangor. It is my go to restaurant when I am passing through that city.

My last drone shot for a while. Sold my DJI Phantom 4. Got my eye on a Nikkor 200mm-500mm lens.

From Sunday April 14 2019.

Poor use of space and street frontage. This development could have been much tighter to the sidewalks and streets to maximize footprint and street frontage.

Here's a new Holiday Inn we're getting in Ottawa to give one example of how hotels can front streets and have more of an impact with less setback such as this one (similar to the Crowne Plaza across the street, just with underground parking instead).

I know what you're getting at as far as the setback is concerned.

Here's an image of what the front of the hotel will look like:

There will be a plaza in front of the hotel (facing Canada Street), and I wonder if part of the idea was to mirror the plaza in front of the Avenir Centre to complement and maximize the public space in this area. This is speculative, but I wonder if this isn't something the architect was planning on..........

There will be no setback on the Main Street facing facade. The hotel here will be flush with a widened sidewalk, and will contain retail frontage.
