Haha, I think all the Montrealers here are actually online right now at 2AM... tomorrow (or today) is going to be a very productive day.

Several "I survived the 2012 Montreal earthquake" facebook groups have over 5k likes already...

It was strong enough to wake me up. A lot stronger than the one we had 2 years ago but no comparaison with the 1988 one. I was 7 years old at this time and I had nightmare for a week!

Turns out this was a hoax! This photo was actually taken in Christchurch, NZ in 2011.

meh......Winnipeg roads have looked like that for years, and we don't even get earthquakes.

Thunder Bay got tonnes of these a few years ago. It confused the hell out of people who believe earthquakes only happen around the Pacific.

Those loud boom earthquakes are really close to the surface. One happened in Dryden a few years ago, the city shit its collective pants.

Apparently, the Southern Quebec/Eastern Ontario region is the second most active (after the Pacific) in the country when it comes to earthquakes. I did not know that until today. We're hit with an earthquake on average every 3 days but most of them are too weak to be felt.

The St. Laurence river basin all the way to Western Lake Erie was formed by an ancient fault. Hence why it is basically a straight line from the St. Lawrence (or Quebec City) to Windsor. There is still a ton of faulting going on in the area because of the past activity.

The Ottawa Valley is also centred on a fault, though I think it is less active then the one over the St. Lawrence River.

Well... The 2 events might not be related but the earthquake did some damage. My laptop died. The booting isn't working and every file/program I had disappeared.

I wonder if earthquakes can mess up computers? Or it was just an extreme coicidence that my computer couldn't start the following day.

A little earthquake (Magnitude 2.3) hit the West Island at 9:26AM. I didn't feel a thing, although I'm on the south shore. Epicenter seems to be in Kirkland.
